Nowadays, it's pretty sad that whenever we talk about a Mercedes-AMG C-Class, we have to expressly mention whether it has a V8 or a V6 under the hood. Luckily, the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat has no such issues.
Of course, one is going the way of the dodo, and the other is not – so who's winning in the race for survival? The W206 Mercedes-AMG C-Class clearly suffers from a perceived lack of finesse, despite the C 63 S E Performance making no less than 671 horsepower from the four-pot and PHEV assembly. Alas, there were no such issues during the W204 Mercedes-AMG C 63 days when the model with the AMG Performance Package had a V8 and 480 horsepower under the hood, all sent through the AMG Speedshift MCT automatic transmission.

For the Dodge Challenger, a true muscle car equipped with the 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V8, these numbers are meager compared to its 707 and 717 hp variations, right? However, these Mopars are notoriously finicky when trying to launch them from a standstill, and we have seen countless 'surprises' occurring at the quarter-mile dragstrip where a lesser-powered model takes down the Hellcat rockets.

Speaking of organized skirmishes, Sam, the host of the Sam CarLegion channel on YouTube, has prepared yet another drag-and-roll race skirmish with American and German DNA. Last time, he gathered around a Cadillac CT5-V to drag and roll race with a Mercedes-AMG C 43 (V6), and there were a few surprises at the end. Now, he and his friends have upgraded to V8 madness in the form of a Hellcat and a C 63 AMG. Oh, and both feature some mild modifications, by the way.

For example, the Mercedes now rocks around 540 horsepower. In contrast, the Challenger has drag slicks in an effort to hook better – as a reminder, they are playing on the airstrip of an abandoned airfield outside of public streets. So, with this setup and despite the major power differences (not to mention the body style disparity), Sam thinks that these two vehicles are mostly on par and will represent an interesting challenge.

Well, as far as the roll races are concerned, he was sorely mistaken – the mighty Mopar roars through both roll races like a champ and takes home the first victories. Next up are the digs – there are three of them, and please always use your safety belt even if you are outside of public streets (!). The first one – performed without launch control – is more of the same: the Challenger roars and beats the bejesus out of the German sedan.

Interestingly, the last two races were done with both cars in launch mode, and now the roles are reversed – the Mercedes-AMG hooks like there's no tomorrow and leaves the bulky Hellcat to remember about the roll races and the initial quarter-mile dig skirmish. However, if we add up all the encounters, I'd say the Americans have three victories and the German machines only two. What do you think – who's better?
