If we were to rank every single Chevrolet Camaro generation that ever was from least good to the absolute best, the fourth-generation model would certainly rank dead-last on the list. It’s a lackluster vehicle, compared to any of its predecessors/successors. Yes, it had better performance than the third-gen version, but it certainly didn’t look as good.
The fourth-gen Camaro was manufactured by Chevy from late 1992 up until 2002. While it enjoyed a solid 10-year run, there’s no denying that GM decided to pull the plug mostly because of poor sales. It’s why it took the carmaker nearly an extra decade to “man up” and introduce the fifth-generation car.

In terms of performance, the fourth-gen Camaro wasn’t necessarily bad. Several specifications offered more than 300 horsepower, which was a major upgrade in relation to its predecessor. Take the Z28 model for example, with its 5.7-liter LS1 V8 engine. Those things had 310 horsepower later in their production run, while limited edition specs like the 30th Anniversary LT4 SS came with 330 horsepower.

There is one specification that people hardly ever talk about though, simply because it’s tremendously rare and dare I say, reasonably desirable.

This would be the Intimidator SS, created as the ultimate Camaro SS by Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet as part of the carmaker’s Signature Series program. It came with a horizontal pattern grille like the 1970 RS Package Camaro, Magnetallic Gray wheels like on late 60s Trans-Am series Camaros, a white Hurst ball shifter and Bright Argent instrumentation like on Earnhardt’s NASCAR Winston Cup Monte Carlo SS, signatures from the champ himself, and more.

Pretty cool, right? Well, hold on to your hats because we just found one such vehicle getting auctioned off to the highest bidder, with just 700 miles on the clock, which means it’s still basically brand-new.

Like all Intimidator SS Camaros, this one also comes with an Onyx Black exterior, special badging, the forced air induction hood, a rear spoiler, dual exhaust outlets, and those previously mentioned wheels, which also happen to feature Goodyear Eagle F1 tires. It’s worth mentioning that the suspension was modified by Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet with progressive-rate front and rear springs.

Meanwhile, interior highlights include the black leather bucket seats, the short-throw shifter, custom badging and floor mats, air conditioning, cruise control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a Monsoon sound system with CD stereo player.

As for the engine, this car’s 5.7-liter LS1 V8 is rated at a very impressive 381 horsepower, with everything going to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox and a Torsen limited-slip differential. The upgraded intake system and the GMMG exhaust system were both fitted as part of the Intimidator SS package.

Last, but not least, this is car #37 of 85 total units produced, and it once retailed for $40,381. The fact that it will nearly cost you that much to purchase it today, speaks volumes.
