1969 was a huge year for the Mustang, which was treated to the Mach 1 performance-oriented package that featured no fewer than six engine choices. So successful that Ford retired the GT until 1982, with the two-door fastback coupe warranting its own alphanumeric code in the guise of 63C.
Chassis number 9T02R123456 is one of 72,458 units sold in the first year of the Mach 1, and even though the Super Cobra Jet 428 engine is missing, you are looking at an R-Code Drag Pack with the Shaker Hood and the factory tachometer. “All VINs match” according to the seller, vankirks2006, who has also supplied the Marti report of this decrepit pony.

Marti Auto Works states that 3,388 units were specified with the big-block V8, and only 267 units rolled off the line with these paint and trim codes. Originally finished in Meadowlark Yellow over white vinyl for the interior, the car is also missing the Ford C6 three-speed automatic transmission.

Accompanied by two bills of sale and a registration from 1984, the Mach 1 can be described as “a big restoration project that will need a fair amount of metal work.” A number of replacement panels are included in the sale, and the seller has “additional sheet metal” available for an additional charge.

A rare opportunity to own a Mach 1 that hasn’t been already cut up, this fellow doesn’t feature a rear seat and the front buckets were sourced from a 1970 model. The eBay listing has attracted 230 watchers, 16 bids, and a high bid of $10,100 at the time of writing, which is peanuts if you ask me.

For reference, the most expensive 1969 Mach 1 with the 428 Super Cobra Jet and Drag Pack offered at auction in 2020 hammered for $140,800. As opposed to this bucket of bolts, that car was awarded a Concours Trailered Gold at MCA and a Heritage Gold at the Mid-America Concours. As for less desirable specifications, those are valued in the ballpark of $50,000 to $60,000.

If it were your money and time on the line, would you step up to the challenge of restoring this bad boy to its former glory?
