1968 was the first year of the C3, and man, it was the best way to begin a new generation for the iconic Corvette.
Everything worked beautifully for Chevrolet, as the sales increased by over 5,000 units overnight. The first-year C3 sold over 28,500 units, a substantial increase from the last year of the Sting Ray.

It was the perfect start for a perfect car, with the convertible again accounting for most orders. More than 18,600 buyers picked the convertible, which accounted for approximately 65% of the entire Corvette production for this model year. The coupe was popular too, despite carrying a higher price tag, reaching sales of about 10,000 units.

The base convertible was available for $4,320, while the least expensive coupe could be had for $4,663.

Someone on eBay recently sold what they claimed to be a unique car. It's a 1968 C3 that spent 35 years in a barn, easily preserving a solid shape under a cover. The seller says they picked up the car in Arizona, brought it to South Jersey, and started a custom overhaul that eventually turned it into a one-of-a-kind contraption.

The owner says they specifically tried to "enhance both its exterior and interior," and because I'm not the biggest fan of some of the choices, I'll let the photos speak for themselves this time. You can easily see the "upgrades" in the photo gallery.

However, the vibrant orange color looks great. The C3 is already a striking appearance, but the orange finish makes it a head-turning machine.

One of the biggest upgrades that you won't be able to see in the images is the engine under the hood. The Corvette is now powered by a 454 big-block customized by Keith Black Racing. It should develop stunning performance, but the seller didn't share many specifics. It's more of a street-level race car, so whoever bought it will probably take it to the track, too. The odometer indicates only 5,900 miles.

Considering it's a restored model, you won't have to worry about common project car issues, such as rust on the undersides. The paint is a 9 out of 10, as it exhibits a small spot where a rock hit the body during one of its adventures on the road. You can see it highlighted in the photo gallery.

As the headline goes, this Corvette is living proof that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and it turns out many people were very fond of how this first-year C3 looks. The digital fight started by seller hankie250 included seven bids, and the top offer was $15,800. The orange Corvette now has a new home, so fingers crossed for someone to meticulously care for it and preserve this one-of-a-kind shape.
