I have to say, Cadillac did rather well for themselves in replacing the CTS with the CT5. I was skeptical at first, because of the fastback-like styling, but if we’re talking strictly flagship specifications, the CT5-V Blackwing looks just as good as any CTS-V I’ve ever seen.
Unlike the CTS with its traditional three-box styling, the CT5 is said to draw inspiration from late 1940s Caddy models, hence the fastback body style. Like it or not, this type of design philosophy is the future, and I even wrote an editorial explaining why that is.
Anyway, before unveiling the Blackwing variant, Cadillac first brought us the high-performance CT5-V, which is powered by a 3.0-liter twin turbocharged V6 engine, good for 360 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of torque. It’s a fast-ish car, but I wouldn’t necessarily call it worthy of the ‘V’ badge.
Now, the CT5-V Blackwing is a whole different beast. It is the true successor to the CTS-V, packing a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine that produces 668 horsepower and 659 lb-ft of torque. While these can also be had with a 10-speed automatic transmission, they actually come standard with a 6-speed manual, just like this 2022 Black Raven example we found on Bring a Trailer, getting auctioned off to the highest bidder.
By the way, this is no ordinary CT5-V Blackwing, but rather chassis #93 of 250 Collector Series cars built for the 2022 model year. In other words, it’s pretty rare and it’s only got 1,400 miles on the clock, which should genuinely appeal to its future owner.
Exterior highlights include the Ultraview sunroof (optional extra), the Carbon Fiber 1 and 2 packages (carbon fiber front splitter, rear spoiler, diffuser, rocker extensions, grille trim), plus a set of Dark Satin Graphite 19-inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires that measure 275/35 at the front and 305/30 at the rear.
We should also mention the cross-drilled carbon ceramic rotors working in conjunction with the red V-branded calipers, because this thing needs plenty of stopping power to keep those 668 horses in check.
As for the interior, this is where you’ll find heated, ventilated, and 18-way power-adjustable Sky Cool Gray front seats, wearing semi-aniline leather with Jet Black inserts and red accents. Furthermore, there’s carbon fiber trim throughout the cabin, while additional goodies include the likes of wireless phone charging, Torch Red seat belts, a rear-view camera, the 15-speaker AKG sound system, a 10-inch touchscreen display for your sat-nav and infotainment needs, plus a heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel.
Also, since this is a Collector Series car, it comes with customized front door sill plates featuring a Cadillac V-Series team member’s signature, as well as a custom B-pillar plaque. When this car was new, it cost $114,870, which is properly expensive.
