Remote working has completely shifted since the pandemic hit. People realized that many jobs can be done from anywhere as long as you have a laptop and a stable internet connection. These new opportunities enabled more people to ditch the conventional lifestyle and start living in tiny home on wheels, such as the camper van I'm checking out today. It was designed to be a remote worker's haven.
Meet Kevin, a 27-year-old creative director who is the head of marketing at an e-commerce company. He can do his job fully online, so he decided to travel around Europe while working remotely, fully adopting the "digital nomad" lifestyle. Kevin bought a 2008 Citroen Jumper and converted it into a well-equipped, aesthetically pleasing mobile home/office.

For most people, it's enough to create a simple sketch of what they want their mobile home to look like. However, Kevin went even further and developed a 3D design in Blender for his camper van's interior.

As usual, I'll start with the exterior tour. However, to be frank, there's not much to discuss regarding this unit. It's finished in a standard white paint all around. What's more, there aren't any elements that hint toward its camper DNA, so you can definitely blend in with this rig. Most bystanders will think this is a standard cargo van.

But once you pop open the main door, you'll discover a beautifully designed living space. Kevin opted for a Scandinavian design boasting modern and organic touches. You'll notice a green and beige color combo paired with limewash textured walls. What's more, the ceiling is made from slats and integrates LED light strips. In fact, there are warm LED light strips all around the interior, which help create a cozy ambiance.

Kevin chose a closed layout for the interior, meaning the living space is separated from the cabin via a dividing wall. The wall boasts a huge headliner cabinet and hooks for clothes storage. Moreover, Kevin installed a large enough window with a privacy sliding screen to be able to jump in the driver's cabin in case of an emergency.

Having a stealthy rig definitely helps with safety, as there's a small chance ill-intended people will try to steal your valuables. However, since even cargo vans are often targeted by thieves, I suggest all van dwellers install some sort of security system.

In Kevin's case, he opted for an alarm system with magnet sensors and extra locks on all doors. However, as you'll see in the video at the end of the article, his van still ended up being broken into.

Dead ahead of the entrance, you'll find one of the most important parts of Kevin's built, the workstation. It consists of a large, curved monitor mounted on a swivel, a desk, a custom-built PC box, and a chair. As a remote worker and avid gamer, I find this to be an excellent setup. I'm especially fond of the PC box, which blends perfectly with the rest of the rig's design.

A floor-to-ceiling unit occupies the space between the desk and the driver's cabin wall. It holds a small Dometic CRX 65 fridge/freezer, a portable propane-powered stove, and three drawers for additional storage. Furthermore, the flip-up table is the perfect spot to place the stove for cooking since a Maxxair fan above it will help ventilate the area.

Opposite the workspace, you'll find the kitchen. It features a deep sink, a flip-up countertop extension, three massive drawers, and a cabinet housing a 40-liter (10.6-gallon) greywater tank.

You'll dsicover the bedroom at the rear, like in most camper van conversions. The bed measures 140 centimeters (55 inches) in width and 190 centimeters (75 centimeters) in length due to the extensions on both sides, offering more than enough sleeping space for one person, even two.

A Dometic skylight above allows you to stargaze from the comfort of the bed. After getting a healthy dose of stargazing, you can pull the monitor to face you and enjoy a movie or series. Other notable features are four spacious overhead cabinets, two on each side.

The space underneath the bed is used as a garage, accessible from both inside and outside the van. Two custom wheel well boxes hold the camper's utility systems. The one on the left side holds the power system – its highlights are an 800 W Victron inverter/charger, a solar charge controller connected to three 200 W solar panels on the roof, and two 100 Ah lithium batteries.

The plumbing system is on the passenger side, consisting of a 40-liter (10.6-gallon) freshwater tank connected to a 12 V SeaFlo 11.5-liter (3-gallon) water pump. To be honest, since Kevin doesn't have a bathroom inside the rig, not even a toilet, I was expecting to see an outdoor shower.

All in all, Kevin's camper van is very well thought out. He has enough storage space, a modern and striking design, an excellent work setup, and proper utility systems. It offers all a remote worker needs to enjoy life on the road.

What makes this project even more impressive is the budget it was built for. The premium interior might make you believe this van cost a fortune, but Kevin invested a mere €12,000 ($13,012) into the conversion. The base vehicle wasn’t expensive either – I discovered that 2008 Citroen Jumpers are typically priced between €5,000 and €10,000 ($5,422 and $10,843). That brings the total approximate cost of this built to around $20,000 ($21,686).
