Six years in the market are enough for the third-gen BMW X3, though by the time its successor premieres, it would likely be seven years old. The all-new premium compact crossover is in the testing and fine-tuning phase of its development, and it should launch as a 2025 model.
So far, the scoop mill has been generous, as we've seen multiple prototypes doing their thing in various environments. The latest spy shots date back to the end of October when we saw another tester with less camouflage on the outside, fitted with the production lighting units at both ends.
It looks like an evolution of its predecessor, although the new head- and taillamps, as well as the flush-mounted door handles, will be the main stuff to set it apart on the outside. In the cabin, it will get the brand's 14.9-inch infotainment system and 12.3-inch digital dials mounted behind a single pane of glass. It will also have a flat-bottom steering wheel, a minimalist gear shifter, and new switchgear.
Since that prototype has a fuel filler cap visible on the right rear quarter panel and an open grille that was partially under wraps, it's obvious that it features an internal combustion engine. But besides the traditional recipe, it will also launch with battery-electric power. This model will be christened the BMW iX3 and will take a swing at the upcoming Porsche Macan EV.
Now, using those spy shots, which were the most revealing yet, the peeps at Kolesa have proceeded to peel off the fake skin using a large dose of CGI. The renderings are on the realistic side of things for the most part, and overall, the brand's next-gen Mercedes GLC and Audi Q5 fighter will look almost the same, which is not bad at all, as it is very interesting.
Compared to the outgoing X3, the new one features a more upright nose and a grille that has barely increased in size. The headlamps have a new shape and feature incorporated LED DRLs, and the lower part of the front bumper has a more intricate styling. The back end is in line with some of the company's latest models. It features slimmer LED taillights, a license plate holder that moved to the bumper, and a four-tailpipe layout on the one imagined by the quoted website.
It has been reported that the next-gen BMW X3 is a few months away from celebrating its online premiere, so we don't have to wait that long to find out everything about it. It is believed to arrive at dealers in the New World as a 2025 model, and it should be a bit pricier compared to the current lineup that starts at $46,900 for the base sDrive30i and at $75,500 for the range-topping X3 M.
