What do you get if you mix the relaxed vibe of a beach house with the timeless charm of a rustic cottage? Thanks to talented folks like the Vancouver-based Style & Grace Homes team, the result can be a fantastic home on wheels for one or two people, packed with modern amenities and filled with natural light.
There's no shortage of tiny home builders in North America, and the young Style & Grace Homes brand is one of the latest to join the club. It specializes in one-of-a-kind custom dwellings that fully reflect each owner's preferences and lifestyle. At the same time, all the homes built by this creative team demonstrate a commitment to sustainability and a strong connection with the environment.

The West Coast Cottage is a beautiful home on wheels that seems to have a big smile on its face. It's all thanks to an abundance of natural light in every corner, something you rarely get to see in some of the loft tiny houses out there. As its name suggests, it was directly inspired by the popular West Coast style, with all the brightness and the relaxed atmosphere of a beach house. Still, it's also a rustic-style cottage that displays top-notch woodwork.

According to the builder, the design itself is a tribute to Vancouver Island's local trees, in particular Douglas fir and cedar. For that reason, Style & Grace Homes teamed up with Nova Flooring, a local company that uses native species of wood exclusively. Together, they created a gorgeous home that puts the spotlight on these two types of wood.

Tiny houses clad in cedar siding are not uncommon, yet the West Coast Cottage steps it up a notch by leaving the siding entirely natural. This way, the wood's natural texture and patina come through. Fir, on the other hand, was used for the trim, the hardwood floors, plus the staircase and the railings. These natural woods already create a luminous and warm interior, which is amplified by the strategic addition of numerous windows.

Few homes on wheels with a loft bedroom are as bright and airy as the West Coast Cottage. Its main doors are made of glass, with a large window above. Numerous large windows are scattered throughout, bringing in more light. Last but not least, a couple of skylights turn what would typically be a dark, compact sleeping area into an ultra-cozy bedroom bathed in sunshine.

Scandinavian-style white shiplap walls and deep green accents create a subtle contrast to the abundant natural wood throughout. On the inside, the West Coast Cottage looks vibrant and colorful without diminishing its natural simplicity in any way. In addition to that, the Spanish influences reflect the owner's customization, creating another layer of color and texture.

This is particularly noticeable in the bathroom. The space itself looks like a rustic sauna with wooden walls, plus a classic-style vanity with ample storage. The conventional toilet and cabin shower add a contemporary touch. Still, the element that immediately draws attention is the unexpectedly colorful sink, boasting an intricate traditional pattern.

At the opposite end of the house, the West Coast Cottage reveals a welcoming living room. It may not be very spacious, but the incredible luminosity creates the illusion of a much bigger space. You have the glass main entry on one side, two horizontal windows on the other side, and a large vertical window to the rear.
Wherever the sofa would be placed, guests would be able to enjoy great views. Also, the modern air conditioning and a vintage-style ventilator keep the atmosphere just right during hot days, turning this part of the house into the perfect spot for family get-togethers or pure relaxation.

The galley-style kitchen also gets abundant natural light from two sides. It's equipped with all the basics, including a full-size fridge neatly integrated into the staircase storage. A single live-edge epoxy shelf adds a discrete rustic touch. This West Coast-style home isn't just big on brightness but also storage. In addition to several kitchen cabinets, this area of the house benefits from the numerous storage cabinets provided by the massive staircase.

One of the home's most beautiful features is the traditional-style handrail, going all the way up to the loft bedroom, where it's extended into a protection wall. It's not just for safety. This stylish handrail creates a much-needed feeling of privacy without obstructing the overall views of the house.

The West Coast Cottage shows its true splendor upstairs. The loft bedroom is not only very generous for two people but also uniquely bright. It boasts two big skylights and oversized horizontal windows on each side. The result is a room that's not only bathed in sunshine but also deeply connected to the outdoors. Far from the uncomfortable loft rooms that can feel too compact and dark, this bedroom is as luminous and warm as it gets.

Modern comfort meets rustic charm inside this beautifully crafted tiny home, a unique tribute to the natural richness of Vancouver Island.
