Downsizing sounds like a wonderful dream if we're talking about a gorgeous natural setting and an ultra-modern home that's not only fully equipped with all the creature comforts of a contemporary abode but also born to be sustainable. This cleverly designed Australian tiny house might just be the universal dream home of all those who want to live in harmony with nature.
Tasmania is one of those places that seems naturally designed for off-grid, tiny living. A true paradise on earth, it's the type of place where you wouldn't want to miss any part of what happens outdoors, starting with the most spectacular sunrises. The best way to do that is to live in a home that's fully connected to its surroundings in every way and that helps you connect as well. Unlike most dwellings in the urban jungle, where we feel cut off from the natural world, a tiny house like this is fully open to the outside and respectful of the environment.

Sam and Isabel's sanctuary on wheels is a custom version of the popular flagship model created by Sowelo Tiny Houses. It's only eight meters long (26 feet), with less than five meters in width (16.4 feet), but it's outstandingly functional due to a wide range of clever features strategically integrated in order to make the most of the available floor space.

The Sowelo Tiny House is not just a simple dual-loft tiny; it claims to boast the largest tiny house lofts designed in Australia. It's also easy to see that they're bathed in natural light thanks to the extra-large windows, which also makes them seem visually bigger. But the Sowelo tiny home's accommodation isn't limited to these two rooms. The downstairs lounge can easily be turned into a third bedroom, making this a surprisingly generous six-person house.

The lounge, however, is mainly intended to function as a relaxing, inviting cocoon for most of the time. A huge convertible sofa can be almost surrounded by stunning views, with the picture window and sliding glass door effectively blurring the line between the inside and the outside.

Speaking of views, there's no better option than what you can see from this smart home's kitchen. The gas-strutted awning window simply transforms this kitchen into a portal into the outside paradise. The gas struts allow the window to open effortlessly at 90 degrees, which creates a perfect dining area on the inside as well as the outside. It helps turn the countertop into an ingenious outdoor breakfast bar from the outside.

This tiny doesn't just invite the outdoors in; it becomes one with it. Adding even more functionality, a folding table pops up at the end of the countertop to add an interior breakfast bar with matching bar stools. Just like the ladder leading to one of the loft bedrooms, it takes virtually no space at all when not in use, which is always nice to have in homes with limited space.

A staircase with integrated storage also saves space and helps keep the kitchen free of clutter, along with the multitude of cabinets and cupboards. The bathroom is fully equipped, but it ditched the conventional toilet in favor of a composting one; that's because this custom version located in Tasmania was meant to be fully off-grid. Composting toilets are an important part of that, in addition to the water tanks and customized solar power package.

The Sowello Tiny is more than off-grid – it also aims to be as sustainable as possible. This has a lot to do with the choice of materials. Here, you'll find gorgeous furniture made of sustainable plantation, FSC (Forest Stewardship Council-certified) Mountain Ash hardwood timber.

The original 8-meter Sowello design includes staircase steps made of the same type of wood, as well as a custom-made steel handrail. Additionally, all the interior timber items are coated with food-grade hard wax oil, and the exterior timber (including the deck) is coated with Low- or no-VOC paints and oils.

This fully off-grid home also features fully insulated walls, floors, and ceilings so that it can withstand the challenges of the Tasmanian climate. A heat exchange unit keeps the atmosphere inside cozy at all times, while the kitchen and the bathroom are fully equipped with all the basics for a comfortable lifestyle even in the midst of a wild, natural environment.

Built for easy transport and easy relocation at any time, the Sowello Tiny comes on a high-quality, fully compliant triple-axle trailer with electric brakes. Along with the required sizing, this makes Sowello a legal tiny house across Australia. By adding off-grid capabilities to this smart, modern design with a sustainable foundation, this Aussie tiny house becomes the ultimate expression of tiny living in harmony with nature. In the end, it makes living in paradise possible, comfortable, and affordable.
