A brand-new 2024 Mercedes-AMG ONE has just been delivered and is already for sale. With Mercedes failing to impose a no-resale policy to prevent car flipping, the ultra-limited run model is the second that already ended up on the used car market.
However, "used" is not exactly appropriate when it comes to this car, which only has 89 kilometers (55 miles) on the clock. Customers have been waiting for ages for the Mercedes-AMG One to start being delivered. Mercedes was late every step of the way, facing serious hurdles over the past few years, trying to transplant the powertrain of the Formula 1 car into a street-legal car.

It is set in motion by a super-sophisticated system that the Mercedes-AMG Petronas racing cars took to the racetrack in the turbo hybrid era. It powered the F1 W06 in the 2015 season and looked like a million dollars. Lewis Hamilton won his third Drivers' Championship in that car, with teammate Nico Rosberg close behind.

The madness started in 2017 with the Project ONE, featuring active aerodynamics and Formula 1 tech. It had all the right curves and straights along its body and enough power to be sold out. And that was exactly what happened. Mercedes planned a production run of 275 units, and they were all accounted for even before the official unveiling of the production car.

But the road to the production car was bumpy. At the time, the engineers were unaware that transplanting a Formula 1 powertrain into a road car was going to be easier said and done, which prompted the Mercedes CEO, Ola Kallenius, to say in 2023: "We must have been drunk when we green-lighted the ONE."

Why the Mercedes CEO regrets green-lighting the ONE

The complicated powertrain integrates a 1.6-liter V6 turbocharged engine working alongside four electric motors for a total of 1,063 horsepower. Two of the motors reside on the front axle, one on the rear axle, and the fourth sitting right next to the turbocharger.

The hypercar also came with the KERS energy recovery system from a Formula 1 car, which was just as difficult to integrate into the setup of the street-legal ONE. Furthermore, the model features a full carbon-fiber monocoque chassis and body panels, keeping weight under control.

All these are enough for it to flash from 0 to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds and hit a top speed of 217 mph (350 kph). "Drunk" or not, they had to go through with it. And in late 2022, they finally started deliveries. And this is one of the 275 units that will ever see the light of day.

This 2024 Mercedes-AMG ONE resides in the United Arab Emirates and is now sold by a dealership in Dubai soon after delivery. It is strange that owners are already flipping their cars after such a long wait, but it is the same with the Tesla Cybertruck. Sellers are trying to make a profit benefiting from the hype that the models built around them.

Mercedes failed to include a resale clause in the purchase contract like Tesla did with the Cybertruck and Rolls-Royce did with the Spectre, imposing penalties for car flipping and blacklisting customers. The Rolls-Royce CEO, Torsten Muller-Otvos, informed customers that they would be banned for life from buying any of the brand’s models if they sell the Spectre during the first year of ownership.

It is the second ONE for sale in Dubai

There is no such restriction on the Mercedes-AMG ONE owners, and this is already the second example that pops up for sale in Dubai this year.

The first one is sold by a luxury car dealership, F1rst Motors, for AED 17,899,999, which is the equivalent of a staggering $4,874,130 at today’s current exchange rates. That would translate into quite a profit, considering that Mercedes sold each ONE for $2.75 million.

The newly listed ONE, however, is auctioned off by SBX Car. So far, only two bids have been placed, reaching only 470,000 AED, the equivalent of only $127,980, which is lightyears away from what the owner paid for it. But there are still 13 days to go, so there is a big chance those figures will radically change.

Just like the one listed back in January, this Mercedes-AMG ONE is painted in black, sporting the Mercedes-Benz three-pointed stars in silver on the rear panels and the Petronas green strips above the rockers and brake calipers in the same shade.

There is black Alcantara wrapping the seats, with contrasting Petronas green stitching. A steering wheel in carbon fiber and Alcantara and a dashboard covers in black leather are also on the menu.

Whoever buys any of the two ONE examples listed for sale in Dubai must know that they are taking home Mercedes' fist hypercar, which is the fastest production car on the Nordschleife, the famous track in Germany.
