Rolls-Royce is keeping an eye on customers and is willing to blacklist all those who flip their cars to make profit. "They will be banned for life," the CEO of the company threatens.
Getting an order slot for a highly anticipated and exclusive model, finally getting the delivery of it after months and months of waiting, and eventually flipping it for a profit has become quite common, especially once production comes to an end and the value of the vehicle skyrockets on the used car market.

Rolls-Royce must have detected something illicit among those who preorder a Spectre, the company’s first-ever series production electric car. The luxury carmaker received way more orders than expected when they revealed the model, back in the fall of 2022, which made waiting times longer and longer, sometimes in excess of 15 months.

The British luxury carmaker is aware that some customers might lose their patience while waiting for their Spectre to be delivered and resort to buying a used Spectre from someone who got it delivered earlier.

But the company’s CEO, Torsten Muller-Otvos, is sending out a warning message for all flippers out there. He threatens to ban customers from ever getting their hands on a Rolls-Royce model if they sell their car for a profit to a used car dealership, as reported by CarDealerMagazine.co.uk.

Any customer who tries to cash in on their electric luxury sports coupe is going to be blacklisted. That includes not just people, but also dealerships. "They’re going immediately on a black list and this is – you will never ever have the chance to acquire again," Torsten Muller-Otvos explained.

The move might change the strategy for some dealerships that are used to making money from buying and reselling expensive and exclusive cars. One of them is UK-based Tom Hartley, which already had plans of buying two Spectres from customers. It remains to be seen if they go all the way under the new circumstances.

First customers will be getting their new Spectre starting the third quarter of 2023, if everything goes according to plan. Meanwhile, the Goodwood-based marque is reportedly considering to ramp up production. Around 40% of those who ordered an electric coupe are new buyers of the brand’s models.

The first-ever electric Rolls-Royce starts at approximately $400,000, with options taking it well above the half a million dollar mark.

The two-door Spectre features a 100-kWh lithium-ion battery that provides it with a 320-mile (520-kilometer) range on a single charge. It is powered by two separately excited synchronous motors that deliver 577 horsepower (585 PS) and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) of torque. The model can do the 0-60 mph run (0-97 kph) in 4.4 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph (250 kph).
