We have a feeling Elon Musk is pretty upset after three Model S sedan caught fire over the last five weeks, but this news report won’t make him feel any better. According to USA Today, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA_ is investigating the Tennessee crash we wrote about yesterday.
“NHTSA will contact the local authorities who are looking into the incident to determine if there are vehicle safety implications that merit agency action,” said the NHTSA in a statement.
The most recent Tesla Model S fire occurred in Smyrna, Tennessee, with the unharmed driver claiming the vehicle saved his life. Previews fires were reported in Seattle and Mexico after both cars had their battery shield pierced.
Tesla Motors’ stocks have dropped recently after the company posted a third-quarter loss of $38 million, but word has it the decline is related to last month’s fires as well.
