The UFO-like Dacia Manifesto left home with the Concept Car Design of the Year award, defeating competitors from Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi in the process. The awards ceremony took place in London.
You know Dacia. It is that Renault-owned Eastern European brand that tags itself as "affordable." And this is what it delivers. Simple design, only the necessary equipment that would not take price higher, and good value for money. No wonder the Duster SUV and the Sandero subcompact car are always present at the top of the rankings of the best-selling cars in Europe.

But then a concept car shows up and sweeps esteemed professional car designers off their feet. They are designers from Audi, Ford, Lamborghini, Lucid, and Mercedes, among many others. They are world-renowned car designers who have drawn cars most of their lives. And the concept car that convinced all of them is the Dacia Manifesto.

None of the juries was allowed to vote for their own designs, nor cars from other brands in their group. These awards have been offered for the past ten years. But Dacia had not even been a contender in any category before. This is proof that the brand has come out of the box and it is not just “affordable” that they are after right now.

For Dacia’s design director, David Durand, the award is a confirmation that the brand is going the right way. The Manifesto concept car was ahead of the Mercedes Vision One-Eleven, inspired by the study vehicle of the late 1970s, which finished third in the competition.

Porsche came in sixth with its Mission X, a concept car that previews the successor of the 918 Spyder. The production vehicle should drive through the factory gate sometime in 2025.

Meanwhile, BMW’s i Vision Dee, which gathered stars such as Arnold Schwarzenegger and David Hasselhoff in the advert, had to settle for the ninth place in the overall ranking.

Meanwhile, one of the only American concept car in the run, the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT, finished eighth. The concept car previews the upcoming Charger, scheduled to hit the market before the end of 2024. Dodge has only recently revealed more about the design of the production car, which will feature the old-school circular headlights.

The Lincoln Model L100 rounds up the Top Ten Concept Car Designs of the Year. The Model L100 is an autonomous grand tourer labeled as “ultra-luxury,” which Lincoln put in the spotlight in 2022 to mark the brand’s 100th anniversary (under the Ford umbrella).
