We loved the new Mazda6, liked the new CX-5 and… that's about it. The Japanese automaker is shoehorning one platform into all the bodies it needs, even the tiny Mazda2 supermini.
The new 2 is still a long way from reaching production, but the Mazda3 is almost ready and has been testing in Europe for about a year. There have been a number of false claims suggesting it was leaked, but we believe these are actually photos of the actual car, since the indicators, fog lights and door handles look like they belong on a regular family car.
Using the latest KODO design elements, the new Mazda3 looks very similar to the 6. The roof slopes towards the rear and creates a more coupe-ish look. The rear pillars are also very thick and masculine.
The new Mazda3 will be built around Skyactiv engines, transmissions and chassis. It will be available with with both petrol and diesel engine, the car in the photo probably being a 2.5-liter petrol.
