If you're passionate about tiny living, you've most likely heard about Ruru Tiny Homes. This New Zealand-based builder created some of the most remarkable and popular designs in the world of tiny homes, and the adorable Nest unit is no exception.
Ruru Tiny Homes is a brand that knows how to cater to customers' needs. It starts with a versatile range of mobile homes that starts with the charming Little Ruru and goes all the way up to the impressive Toroa XL. The Nest unit was a natural addition. As its name suggests, it's a pod-style unit that is just as cozy and welcoming as the larger builds but much more versatile.

This miniature unit comes on a platform that's just four meters long (13 feet) and three meters wide (9.8 feet). It boasts a total of 12 square meters (129 square feet) of living space, which is generous for a unit this size. Like most pod-style abodes, the Nest is not meant to be used as a regular home but as an additional multi-purpose space that can be conveniently transported and installed in someone's own backyard.

More and more people all over the world are switching from conventional houses to tiny homes on wheels, and we've seen that even larger families can do that successfully. At the same time, folks are also tapping into the endless possibilities of having an additional unit on their property. These pods are self-contained living spaces that offer the same mobility benefits as typical tiny homes. They don't always come with the same facilities (a kitchen and a bathroom), but they can easily be adapted to a wide variety of roles.

Don't be fooled by The Nest's modest size. This little pod stands out in many ways. First, you'll notice that it looks and feels much bigger than it is, very bright and spacious. Indeed, it features 2.7-meter-high (8.8 feet) ceilings, a great advantage when it comes to smaller homes. Second, it boasts the signature Kiwi style with oversized windows and glass doors.

The Nest has beautiful, large windows on each side and opens up to the world through big French doors. This way, the actual living area inside is virtually surrounded by windows, which almost blurs the line between the outdoors and the indoors. It means having wonderful views at all times and feeling as close as possible to nature. Plus, the beautiful white walls and high ceilings also contribute to the overall feeling of spaciousness and luminosity.

As you can see in the completed units that are currently up for grabs at the builder's Motueka yard, The Nest would make a wonderful home office or guest room. In each case, there's plenty of room for ample seating and lots of furniture items. Basically a wide open area, this pod can be configured in countless ways, from an office or a self-contained guest house to a bohemian-style yoga sanctuary or personal gym.

As compact as it is, The Nest can even provide the full comfort of a tiny home. The builder can add a small bathroom or even a kitchen nook for the customers who plan to use it as an extra sleeping area or guest house.

The Nest isn't just stylish and luminous but also durable and sustainable. Just because it's smaller doesn’t mean that high quality wasn't a priority. Every Nest unit by Ruru Tiny Homes comes fully insulated and double-glazed. Plus, just like all the brand's homes on wheels, it's built with 100% New Zealand-sourced materials.

This is one of the fundamental principles of Ruru Tiny Homes. It's one of the few builders worldwide to be fully committed to using only locally-made materials. There's an obvious advantage in terms of costs, but it's much more than that – it also makes each tiny house, including The Nest, truly authentic and eco-conscious. Plus, it's a way of giving back to the community and supporting the local industry.

The timber that's used for framing, the corrugated iron that's used for roofing, and all the insulation materials are sourced from New Zealand. At the same time, they are carefully selected to withstand the specific living conditions and climate challenges across the country. Once the structure is completed, the manufacturer then works with local artisans to create custom furniture and finishes based on the same principle of sustainability.

Folks in New Zealand can still take advantage of the current Black Friday offer and grab the beautifully-built Nest unit for just NZ $39,000 ($23,620). Ruru Tiny Homes is also running a promotion until the end of November, offering 50 km (31 miles) of free delivery for each sale.

Those of us who can't admire the adorable Nest units at their home in Motueka still have the benefit of being inspired and delighted to see what happens when high-quality design and passion for the unique New Zealand spirit come together.
