The Model 3 Unveiling Will Feature Functional Prototypes

With Elon Musk, you can never be sure of something until that something is right in front of your eyes. Or, sometimes, not until it's in the tight grip of your hands, as this man who made a Model X pre-order and didn't get it found out.
Earlier this year, reports were suggesting that the March 31 event would not feature the actual car, but only some pictures of it, at best. Regardless of how big Tesla is right now or how fanatic its fanbase is, getting a bunch of potential clients and the media in one place just to show them some photos is a little over the top. Not saying it would have damaged the company's stocks or anything, but it still would have been a poor PR decision.

No worries, though, as the highly anticipated unveiling will actually unveil something. Apart from the invitations sent to Tesla owners that allowed them to take part in a raffle for one of the 650 chances of seeing the event live, some media outlets also received a different message. Slashgear, for instance, doesn't give away the exact text of the invitation, but does state that "journalists present will see 'the Model 3 prototype' at the event." And then it continues: "Those prototypes should, the invitation goes on to suggest, be functional, too. Press will be able 'to take a quick spin in what we've been working on,' Tesla says."

Still, that doesn't necessarily mean that Tesla will be showing anything remotely close to the final production version of the Model 3. However, at this point, any piece of new information on what could very well be the most important Tesla model so far is welcome, as we've only got so little to go on now. Apart from the $35,000 starting price (before subsidies) and the 200+ miles maximum range (which, let's face it, is very vague), there's very little we know about the Model 3.

Either way, a lot more will come out following the March 31 event, and if you're not among the lucky ones to win the lottery - which will probably be the case - you can still watch it live, as Tesla says it will livestream the proceedings on Tesla.com starting 8:30 pm Pacific time.
