A red sailing yacht is almost like a unicorn in the world of luxury cruising. Extremely rare and awe-inspiring, Doryan is much more than a good-looking pleasure craft. This Finnish-built yacht offers the rich comfort of large motor yachts while maintaining a streamlined silhouette, remarkable performance, and self-sufficient sailing capabilities.

Doryan will soon be ten years old, yet no other sailing yacht has matched its unique combination of striking good looks, high performance, and superyacht-like onboard comfort. Despite its bold appearance, this 2014 Baltic Yachts build is also one of the most discrete luxury yachts in operation. Still in the hands of its original owner and not available for charter, Doryan sailed away from the spotlight.

It made its official debut at the 2015 Monaco Superyacht Show, dazzling the audience with its statement color. As you can imagine, it was one of the owner's specific requests – the new yacht was a tribute to his passion for supercars, particularly to a certain Lamborghini that was his father's favorite.

The owner also had difficult demands in terms of layout, requiring extra effort and attention to detail from the team of experts that brought Doryan to life. The result was triumphant: a 116-foot (35.5 meters) sailing yacht with lavish accommodation, ready to travel the world in excellent comfort.

Dryan is officially a bluewater cruiser, meaning it's adapted for long-term open sea cruising, such as challenging ocean crossings. Extra storage space and increased tank volume (13,000 liters/3,430 gallons) are essential for these types of boats. Doryan is also incredibly lightweight (95 tonnes/104 tons), with a shallow draft that allows it to access remote bays and small ports (a lifting keel was used to lower the draft from 5.50 to 3.50 meters (18 to 11.4 feet).

The sleek yet powerful silhouette brings to mind high-performance racing yachts. Yet, Doryan is all about relaxed cruising and long, lazy voyages. It's powered by a single Cummins 375 engine, propelling it at no more than 11 knots (12.6 mph/20.3 kph).

It also reveals an innovative addition – a battery pack enabling it to cruise in silent mode for nearly ten hours without a generator running. This is also enough to power the partial air conditioning system and the stove hobs in the galley (minus the oven).

Doryan's owner specifically selected a sailing yacht for the lower fuel consumption. Not just a supercar lover, he was also interested in the environmental aspect of cruising. He also wanted a generous layout that would be comfortable enough for his family. Balancing this with the yacht's overall performance was no easy task.

The ones who made it happen were the experts from the Italian Nauta Yachts, the German judel/vrolijk & co, and the Finnish shipyard Baltic Yachts. High-tech, innovative materials played an important part in achieving this delicate balance between comfortable spaces and cruising performance. The yacht's hull and deck were built from infused carbon, while the interiors featured foam-cored joinery, known for being extra lightweight.

Doryan's layout reveals a master suite forward, two cabins further aft, and a raised deck salon. Two more guest cabins are located aft of the salon. Crew quarters include three cabins, located aft together with the crew mess and navigation area.

The master suite is actually a VIP cabin with four portlights and two forward-opening deck hatches. The space includes an adjacent walk-in wardrobe and a marble bathroom with both a shower and a bathtub.

The smaller cabin next to it was specifically placed there for the children's nanny. The other two cabins, twins with en-suite shower rooms, were meant for the owner's kids. One has an extra Pullman berth, and the other includes a desk so children can do their homework even during long cruises.

The beautiful salon includes a seating area to starboard and a spot for formal dining to port, with a large table for ten. The furniture is both lightweight and elegant, highlighted by luxury materials such as leather. It's one of the best spots on board for taking in the views while enjoying the comfort of controlled temperature and protection from the elements.

One of Doryan's most distinctive features is the surprisingly large cockpit with a hard-top carbon bimini. The owner specifically asked for a sheltered area where his family could enjoy the outdoors while at sea. Again, this was a challenging task for the engineers. The resulting cockpit boasted a generous surface, an integrated fixed bimini, and wrap-around windows.

Last but not least, the 116-footer includes an extra-large stern garage that can store plenty of water toys. At the same time, the openable transom acts as a spacious bathing platform.

Mario Pedol of Nauta Design compared Doryan to a GranTurismo due to the thrilling mix of style, performance, and elegance. Although Baltic Yachts has launched much larger yachts (including the famous Pink Gin VI, the world's largest carbon fiber sloop), this red beauty remains one of the most memorable achievements in luxury sailing.
