Three months into 2024, the list of highly desirable Hot Wheels cars is getting longer and longer. You'll see new castings and recolors in each ongoing series. And that gives collectors plenty of options, as long as they have the budget to keep up.
I'm telling you, running after every single release is exhausting. Buying every new model takes time and effort, even if you can afford it all. Having a "battle" plan helps. And it might be better for you just to stand aside and watch from afar for most of the hunting season.

Then, when the hype levels have decreased, you can step in and start buying in batches. You just need to write down the names of the cars you like during the year and then begin adding them to your virtual basket around November. This way, you may get everything you need in time for Christmas.

Playing by Mattel's rules regarding certain products can allow you to get some cars at a lower price. The new RLC Overdrive membership has proven controversial among collectors, but it could still be a cheaper way to buy exclusive castings. Taking to eBay or collector markets will often leave you at the mercy of scalpers (they have none), and you can end up paying up to ten times the retail value of the item you wanted. The Collector Edition series is another smart marketing move from the El Segundo-based manufacturer:

"Come buy $20 worth of Hot Wheels at a certain store, and you get a special Collector's item that you can't purchase elsewhere." And it works like a charm. Creating scarcity activates people's fear of missing out. Sure, using Spectraflame paint jobs and Real Riders wheels is also a big incentive. Mattel will require people to buy its products from Dollar General stores for the first Collector hunt of the year. Developing a series of store-exclusive recolors acts as a further incentive to lure enthusiasts in.

The '64 Lincoln Continental is on this list alongside the '69 Ford Mustang Boss 302, the Honda Super Cub Custom, and the Koenigsegg Gemera. The Mustang will probably raise the most interest here, given that it also has a Falken livery. The Nissan Silvia (CSP311) is the first Collector Edition car for 2024, and it's bound to be quite popular. Mark Jones designed this casting for its 2019 Fast & Furious debut, which featured a Tokyo Drift-inspired "Mona Lisa" livery.

This premium-exclusive model has only had one more iteration since: the 2020 Japan Historics one. It featured Turbine Real Riders wheels, whereas the most recent variation marks the return to the Classic 4-spoke RR design. Spectraflame Red is the new theme for 2024, a nice change from the pink/purple colors of 2023. As expected, you'll find several CSP311s for sale on eBay, ranging between $18 and $64. I've already seen a sneak peek of what's coming up in the Collector Edition series this year, and the casting I'm most excited about is the Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI.
