The Green Ford Focus Electric

When a car maker launches an electric vehicle, the fact that the vehicle uses no fossil fuel appears not to be enough to make it desirable in the eyes of the more and more eco-conscious customers. Apart from being green in heart, an EV must also be green in body. And the new Focus electric is, according to Ford, green enough.

The manufacturer summed up today the green attributes of the Focus, other than the ones coming from the powertrain. The car itself is, says Ford, a tribute to the environment, being constructed from recycled and renewable materials.

Soy-based foams, wood fibers, resins or oil-based plastics are the terms which, put together, spell Ford Focus electric. Some of these materials have been already introduced in other Ford models, 20 by the count of the automaker.

“An electric vehicle is already considered a green vehicle, but Ford wanted to go a step further by looking at ways to make the materials inside the Focus Electric more eco-friendly as well,” said Carrie Majeske, product sustainability manager at Ford.

“Using recycled or renewable materials in lieu of petroleum-based materials allows Ford to minimize the amount of virgin materials used in the Focus Electric.”

Aside for making it green, Ford also plans to build the Focus green. Together with Xtreme Power, Ford plans to erect one of Michigan’s largest solar power to serve the Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne. The green power, as you might have guessed, will be used in the production process of Focus.
