The Giulia Super 1300 - A Proper Alfa!

Back in the days when Alfa Romeo didn’t make its front badge out of cheap plastic, so that it fades and peels away in time, as does the ‘chrome’ grille which is actually made of plastic, they made the superb Giulia, a name which they are reviving for their upcoming 159 replacement, which may or may not be rear-wheel driven.
It was launched in 1962, and remained in production for 16 years, until 1978 - it was officially replaced by the Giulietta in 1983. The 1300 Super, shown in the video above, was powered by a 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine, which was good for around 77 hp, which were sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual gearbox.

The car in the video is completely original and owned by Robbert Alblas - it is also in very good shape, for a car of its age. He clearly likes to drive it as it should be driven, and we thoroughly understand, as the car only weighs 1,000 kg (2,200 lbs), so it can easily be chucked about.

It is good to see that people still keep these old Alfas on the road, as they represent the happier part of the Italian automaker’s history, which as of late is a constant source of doubt and pessimism.
