Lancia has finally done it! The Italians unveiled the fourth generation of the brand's only model as of 2024. The new Ypsilon launches in a limited-run special edition.
The new Lancia Ypsilon Edizione Limitata Cassina will be available in only 1906, a number which is a tribute to the year the Italian marque was founded. Later on, Lancia will roll out more electric and mild-hybrid versions.

The first version launched is fully electric and represents Lancia's new design language. It sports an illuminated "calice" grille, flanked by polygonal headlights mounted lower than before and round taillights inspired by those of the iconic Lancia Stratos.

The Italian sibling of the Peugeot 208 and Opel Corsa sports glossy black accents on the front end and wheel arches, on the C-pillar as well as on the tailgate. However, there is no revolution in terms of design, as the carmaker wanted to keep the model's DNA.

Therefore, the mirror caps, the proportions of the greenhouse, and the overall looks remind us all of the supermini's previous generation, which was on the market for a full 13 years.

Lancia describes it as being "very simple, fast, and 100 percent digital." The Ypsilon Edition Limitata Cassina gets the exclusive Blu Zaffiro paintwork.

The cabin bears the touch of Cassina, the Italian manufacturer of luxury furniture. We are thus dealing with high-quality materials and impressive attention to detail, which distance the Ypsilon from the budget car that it used to be compared to other models in the lineup, which Lancia killed one by one due to poor sales.

The seats are upholstered in velvet with the "cannelloni" motif, while the circular "tavolino," which is Italian for "small table," found room in the center console.

With the Ypsilon, Lancia also introduces the Sound Air Light Augmentation (SALA) infotainment system with a virtual assistant. The digital instrument cluster features a dual-screen layout.

The carmaker is counting on the subcompact car to resurrect the entire brand. But there is huge pressure on its tiny shoulders since it is the brand's only model as of 2024. Lancia is also planning to launch two more models in the near future: the Gamma crossover and the Delta hatchback.

Lancia still keeps the specs under wraps. We have yet to find out more closer to the public debut of the mode, set to take place in Milan on February 14. What we do know is that the car will be able to drive as far as 403 kilometers (250 miles) before it needs to be plugged in again.

This means that energy should be stored in the 54 kWh battery pack that other Stellantis models, such as the Peugeot e-208 and the Corsa-e, come with.

A hybrid version is also expected to show up in the range integrating the 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine.
