Tesla started Foundation Series Cybertruck deliveries on November 30 and has since expanded deliveries to hundreds of reservation holders. Some even received several invitations to configure the Cybertruck, irking those who were still waiting for theirs. Now, Tesla reportedly canceled the additional orders, while the limited supply pushed deliveries to late 2024.
Tesla is quickly running out of Cybertrucks to deliver to those who were invited to configure a Foundation Series model. When the deliveries to regular customers started in early December, the delivery estimates were between December 2023 and March 2024 for the Cybertruck AWD and "early 2024" for the Cyberbeast. While Tesla is trying to satisfy as many reservation holders as possible, these dates have been pushed back considerably.

Those who recently got an invite to configure the Cybertruck had to choose between the AWD configuration, which is estimated to ship between January and March 2024, and the Cyberbeast, with a vague "mid-late 2024" delivery window. This is the same as saying that the Cyberbeast is sold out until at least the end of 2024, which explains why many opted for the AWD Cybertruck.

However, it's unclear how Tesla ended up in this situation. Judging by how fast the ordering process expanded in December, it looked like production at Giga Texas was in full swing. Right after Christmas, Tesla notified another batch of reservation holders that they could configure the Cybertruck and convert their reservation into an order. However, many reported that they already received a second invite, with some of them already completing the order process.

With many huge Cybertruck fans still waiting for their invite, it was just a matter of time before a mutiny started. Although late, Tesla has rectified the situation by contacting the customers and telling them they need to cancel all the duplicate orders. According to a message posted in the Tesla CyberTruck Facebook group, a Tesla rep told a reservation holder that the duplicate invites were offered "accidentally." Those who placed more than one order will get a refund for the $1,000 order fee for the duplicate order.

As you can imagine, this decision was equally controversial. Those left on the side cheered, thinking their chances of being invited soon to configure a Cybertruck increased significantly. However, those who were forced to give up all but one order of the Foundation Series Cybertruck were not happy. They say there was no mention on Tesla's website about the one-order-per-person limit, which is fair enough.

Having more than one Cybertruck is a boon for those who want to make money by renting their trucks. Since flipping the Cybertruck is not an option, thanks to Tesla instating an air-tight no-resale policy, renting the Cybertruck has become a very lucrative option. The daily rates go as high as $1,000, with some discounts offered for longer-period rentals.
