Tesla Motors is looking for an efficient way of handling work at its Service Centers and is willing to implement a thing or two from F1.
Kenny Handkammer was Red Bull Racing's chief mechanic, but that changed when Elon Musk decided to make him a part of Tesla Motors. According to several sources and a tweet from Elon Musk (embeded below), Handkammer will be named Global Director of Service Training at Tesla.

Moreover, he "will help shape how Tesla dealerships handle electric cars brought in for routine servicing along with any unforeseen issues."

This move shouldn't surprise anyone as Elon Musk wanted Tesla's Service Centers to use a Formula 1-inspired 'pit crew'. Such a crew would handle Model S servicing and repairs in a very effective and prompt fashion. Therefore, Tesla's customers will get their cars back faster than before.

“So instead of having one person per bay, the car gets slowly worked on over several days, it actually comes in and a team attacks it, and we’re constantly improving the tools and the metrics to say, how can we get the car perfect as fast as possible. We actually bring in people from Formula One to help with the training on this. And I think there’s a real opportunity to revolutionize the way service works,” said Musk in a press conference last year.

If Tesla Motors manages to pull this off and properly implement Formula 1 like service treatments, they could change the game in the industry. This also means that other premium carmakers will have to keep the pace and start providing similar services or risk falling behind.

My question is, how long will it take before our cars will be serviced at home for minor damages or periodic checks?
