Tesla continues adding more Supercharger locations for its existing and upcoming customers. The brand is doing the right thing because next year and in 2025, more and more EV owners will visit these stations. This particular one, however, is special. Here's what you need to know about the brand's largest DC fast-charging place.
Simply put, Tesla bet against everyone else in the automotive industry and won – for now, at least. Today, the brand is the most valuable company on Earth. On top of that, it has the world's best-selling car (so far into 2023) in its portfolio (the Model Y), and the early investment in establishing a comprehensive high-power charging network will soon start to pay off big time.
Ford opened the floodgates when it publicly announced that it would switch from the CCS Combo 1 connector to the North American Charging Standard (formerly known as the Tesla port) and get Supercharger access for their buyers. General Motors followed suit quickly after.
Later, Rivian, Polestar, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, and Fisker joined in on the fun. Most recently, Honda and Acura announced that they would like to sign a similar deal. It's worth noting, however, that Aptera was the first brand to ever side with Tesla after the EV maker decided to open NACS to anyone interested.
Europe might have the CCS Combo 2 as the only port design that makes sense in nearly all countries over the pond, but in North America, it's becoming increasingly clear that the NACS will eventually reign. Besides that, analysts already estimate that Superchargers could end up worth around $100 billion when all is said and done.
As such, it's unsurprising that Tesla continues to invest in expanding its network in the US and other parts of the world. Europe, for example, already has two sites with V4 Superchargers.
But what people over the pond can't enjoy is a Supercharger station where 84 EVs can replenish their energy storage units simultaneously. The site is in Quartzsite, Arizona, close to Interstate 10 and near another Supercharger with V2 and V3 stalls. The new location features solar canopies and pull-through spots that allow those with trailers to charge with ease.
If you want to visit it, set your navigation to 350-370 Main Event Ln. All the 84 Superchargers are V3 pedestals (250 kW max.) and are open constantly. But, when writing, only 60 are turned on.
This new Arizona Supercharger is Tesla's largest such location yet. Previously, there were reports about Tesla opening a high-power charging station with 100 stalls in Barstow, California, or one with 164 individual charging points in Coalinga, California. Neither has materialized yet.
Barstow has four Superchargers with four, ten, 16, and 20 stalls each, while Coalinga has two stations with 18 and 36 pedestals, respectively. There's another one in Coalinga with 80 stalls, but they have not been brought online at the time of writing.
The Grand Canyon State is home to the largest Tesla Supercharger yet.
