Tesla has just unveiled the refreshed Model Y in China without any preview whatsoever. The crossover sports exterior and interior tweaks, as well as some modifications in terms of specs. Yet Tesla keeps the same starting price.
The carmaker came up with new, black 19-inch wheels, which replace the previous silver Gemini set. This solution might help in terms of aerodynamics, since the CLTC range ratings are slightly higher for the versions sporting the 19-inch wheels.

The change for the rear-wheel drive Model Y is of 5 miles (8 kilometers), now going up to 344 miles (554 kilometers). For the dual-motor all-wheel drive Model Y Long range, the CLTC testing procedure admit a 428-mile (689 kilometers), which is about 17 more miles (28 kilometers) than before. Yet the range-topping Performance keeps figures unchanged.

The entry-level Tesla Model Y with rear-wheel drive is also quicker, doing the 0-62 mph time in 5.9 seconds instead of the 6.9 seconds needed. All other specs remain unchanged for the Model Y made in China for China, with the top speed remaining at 135 mph (217 kph).

On board the Model Y, Tesla replaced the wood trim with a new textile material and mounted an RGB ambient light with a light strip going all along the dashboard. The move makes it similar in terms of design to the Model 3 facelift, introduced back in August. The Model Y also gets the Hardware 4 (HW4) self-driving computer.

Yet one thing remains unchanged about the Tesla Model Y, and that is the price. The car starts at 263,900 yuan ($36,788). At the opposite end of the lineup stands the Model Y Performance, estimated at 349,900 yuan ($48,777).

The intermediate version, the Model Y Long Range AWD kicks off at 299,900 yuan ($41,1806). It drives as far as 428 miles (688 kilometers), while the previous version was capable of 410 miles (660 kilometers). It takes 5.0 seconds for the all-wheel drive version to reach 62 mph (100 kph) from zero.

The car can drive as far as 382 miles (615 kilometers) before needing to be plugged in again. This one runs from 0 to 62 mph (0-100 kph) in 3.7 seconds and reaches a top speed of 155 mph (250 kph). All figures remain unchanged.

Those who want to take one home will have to wait between two and six weeks for the RWD and Performance versions or six to eight wheels for the Long Range AWD.

The model is set to enter production at the Giga Shanghai this upcoming winter, but it is yet unknown if the carmaker will also send this version, which is not thoroughly updated like the Model 3, to other markets outside China. Customers get to decide if they are taking the slightly refreshed Model Y or the facelifted version, which will drop sometime in 2024.
