The Tesla Model S P100D is the sensation of the moment, with the EV duking it out with supercars and muscle machines like it's nothing. However, if we leave all the vs-Corvette-Z06 hype aside, how much faster is the three-digit Model S compared to the P90D?
The answer to this question comes from the piece of footage at the bottom of the page. In fact, the Palo Alto-crazy crew over at the Tesla Racing Channel, which uploaded the clip, does much more than answer the question mentioned above.

The footage shows us the top three quickest Model S incarnations getting it on at the drag strip, so you'll also get to enjoy Model S P85 comparos.

However, we'd like to focus on our initial question and, at least when it comes to the cars owned by the said team, the sprinting gap between the P100D and the P90D isn't all that great.

In fact, the guys drop a Model S P90D quarter-mile reminder in the comments section of the clip: "P90Ds ran 11.2s when they first came out, then the refreshed front end ran 11.0s and for whatever reason ours ran 10.80s,"

In the footage we have here, the Tesla Model S P100D delivers a 10.795s quarter-mile run and, as if this wasn't enough, there's also a roll race between the two. This is where the difference gets even smaller, making questions such as "Is the P100D purchase really necessary?" legitimate.

For the record, the P90D starts at $112,000, while the extra electron juice of the P100D sees the starting price jumping to $134,500.

Then again, it all depends on whom you're asking. If you're planning to spend plenty of time at your local drag strip, the 100 makes full sense. If, however, you'll be doing most of the driving on the road and without any intention of using the traffic lights for other purposes than their original one, you might want to think twice before going for the range-topper.
