Some people believed Tesla would have the Cybertruck delivered to its first owners by the end of September. However, no official information has been offered, and there could be a reason for this. Recent footage shows a Cybertruck prototype driving with weird antennas on the roof, indicating that the iconic pickup truck is not done testing yet.
Once the Model 3 Highland was officially released, the Tesla community happily abandoned it and moved back to the most important topic of the past year: the Cybertruck. The elusive pickup truck was supposed to enter the market with a bang by the end of September, as Elon Musk promised during the Q1 earnings call. Still, there's no official communication about the imminent launch, only gossip and speculations.

Many wonder what's keeping Tesla from announcing the big event everyone is waiting for. Based on our information, preparations at Giga Texas have been completed, and the Cybertruck production line should already be capable of producing the first units. Recent Cybertruck sightings in Austin confirmed a vastly improved build quality, prompting optimists to think that the beginning of series production is imminent.

To further fuel the speculations, somebody shared a picture of a jacket with the Tesla logo and "Cybertruck Launch Team" lettering. For many, this is a clear indication that the Cybertruck delivery event is just around the corner. And it could be so, but such apparel has been around for the past year, as confirmed by Tesla insiders, without anything happening.

Considering all this, it's intriguing that Tesla still hasn't committed to an official launch date, with speculations now pushed to the fourth quarter or even next year. Some even say that not even Tesla knows when the Cybertruck will be ready for prime time. In fairness, why announce something that no one knows when it will be available?

Recent pictures and a video seem to support this theory, showing a Cybertruck equipped with a strange "roof rack." Upon closer inspection, thanks to a higher-zoom camera, it became clear that this was no roof rack but rather some testing equipment. Based on the saucer shape and the antenna cable coming out of it, this looks like radio equipment, most probably some sort of GPS sensor. The Cybertruck sported two such devices attached to its roof.

An educated guess points to Tesla conducting more tests, probably to calibrate the in-car sensors. If these are GPS sensors, then GPS calibration might be in store. Tesla might also validate Autopilot hardware using external sensors, which we saw last year with the Semi class-8 trucks. Whatever the reason, it could be a while before Tesla feels confident about a delivery event date.

With the third quarter earnings call expected to take place on October 19, Tesla might seize the moment to make the big Cybertruck announcement everyone is waiting for. If this happens, we can expect a "Cyber-party" on December 1. That's exactly what happened a year ago with the Tesla Semi.
