The Subaru Forester isn’t just one of the most spacious compact SUVs money can buy. It also happens to be one of the most capable compact SUVs when the going gets on the rough side.
And naturally, the Forester is propelled by a four-cylinder boxer. This particular type of internal combustion engine was introduced in the Japanese manufacturer’s range in 1966 by the Subaru 1000. Half a decade after that crucial moment in Subaru history, the automaker’s UK arm introduces a Forester which pays homage to the wondrous boxer engine.

Despite its totally unoriginal name (Forester Special Edition), I’m glad to tell you that this Forester is more equal than others. Slated to go on sale in the United Kingdom from September 1st, only 100 examples of the Forester Special Edition will ever be made. Prices start from £29,995 for the petrol-powered Lineartronic. The diesel variation is £31,495.

Subaru UK highlights that the Forester Special Edition is based on the generously equipped XC Premium trim level. Better still, the daftly named sport utility vehicle boasts £1,500 of additional equipment at no extra cost. And yes, this Subaru also comes with a 5-year/100,000-mile warranty.

What sets it apart from other Forester models, though? Well, the Hunter Green Metallic paint finish is a start. The Special Edition brown leather seats with brown leather interior door grips also come to mind. Other than that, this is just your average Forester with all the bells and whistles imaginable.

Just to name a few of those, the UK-bound Subaru Forester Special Edition is equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Subaru Starlink, satellite navigation, Hill Descent Control, the whole nine yards. X-Mode is also on the menu, managing the Forester’s power, torque, and brakes to maintain traction on slippery surfaces.

Regarding get-up-and-go, the 2.0-liter turbo diesel engine is good for 147 PS (145 bhp) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque. The 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol, on the other hand, delivers the same level of grunt and 240 PS (237 bhp).
