According to a document forwarded to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration by Subaru of America, Inc., the Japanese manufacturer is starting the year with a plentiful vehicle safety recall. In total, the potential number of units affected is 198,900, all cars being called over a premature corrosion issue. Subaru and the NHTSA inform that recalled models include the model year 2008 to 2011 Impreza, 2008 to 2014 WRX and STI and 2009 to 2013 Forester crossover SUV. But the catch is that all affected cars are currently or were formerly registered in the so-called snowy states. Furthermore, you should know that these vehicles were previously subjected to another safety campaign, which was given the 14V-311 recall number. The previously mentioned older model year Subarus from Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Vermont, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia are prone to brake lines that may experience corrosion due to salt water splashing on the brake lines through a gap in the fuel tank protector. Because of this issue, the manufacturer explains that brake fluid may leak due to the brake line corrosion, resulting in longer distances being required to slow or stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of an accident.
As such, the automakers instructed dealers to apply an anti-corrosion wax to the four-way joint connector area of the brake line system at no cost to the owners. Lastly, Subaru informs that the campaign is expected to begin nationwide on January 26th.

If you happen to own any of the previously mentioned cars, we recommend to also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety at 1-888-327-4236 to find out if your Subaru is really a part of this recall. You can also do that by using the recall search tool on safercar.gov.
