The Impreza WRX STi is easily Subaru’s most famous and generally-appreciated offering. However, the rally-bred engineering was only available on the Impreza, and Subaru are looking to change that now, and expand the STi performance brand to more of its cars.
An attempt was made in 2010, when they launched the Forrester TS, a more aggressive variant of the regular crossover, featuring the same 2.5-liter four-pot boxer as the famed WRX STi, developing 259 hp. The model was, at first, only available in Japan, but now they have also made it available in Russia, as the Moscow Motor Show approaches.
According to Autocar’s ‘insider’, "Russia is the perfect market to trial sales of a more aggressive Forester [ . . . ] but it's clear that STi's abilities and experience could work on other cars in other markets. Confining them to WRX projects doesn't make sense when the demand is there." We say this is great news and we are genuinely looking forward to more STi-branded products from Subaru, and why not, an STi-branded BRZ - sadly, this last part is just wishful speculation on our part.
