This 2018 Ford Mustang GT is better known by its drag strip birth name – a.k.a. the Steeda Silver Bullet. And, according to the aftermarket specialist, this ‘Stang is the current record holder for the quickest naturally aspirated modern incarnation of the legend, with a 9.94-second run at a trap speed of 139.7 mph (224.82 kph).
If we are to believe the latest video (embedded below) from the Drag Racing and Car Stuff YouTube channel, the Steeda Silver Bullet is both the new and old record holder, as the naturally aspirated Mustang GT was recently caught going against a trio of vehicles, ending up with a best run of 9.78 at 141.22 mph (227.27 kph).
That’s impressive, especially considering Steeda’s own official claim to fame and drag strip fortune. It’s also a clean steamroll when it comes to all three races. First up, the Mustang went up against a black Corvette, and after a great start, it finished the run some bus-lengths in front of the Chevrolet rival.
Next up was an equally dark Dodge Challenger (a Demon, according to the video description and the badge closeup) which posed a better challenge (pun intended) for the Silver Bullet. The FCA monster stuck very close to the custom-built opponent but ultimately lost as it narrowly missed the sub-ten second mark (it was a 10.04 result!).
The third run was probably the charm for the C85-fed pony (we don’t see its previous results clearly because of the blurry footage), which managed the 9.78 result while demolishing its competitor (12.5 at 112.13 mph or 180.45 kph). Of course, in the fast world of drag racing, it remains to be seen if this result will be validated as a new record for the Steeda Mustang.
Still, a very impressive result from a very imposing build – the Steeda presentation of the custom project notes the third-generation 5.0-liter Coyote V8 and the 10-Speed 10R80 automatic transmission as being the only two factory-supplied elements from an incredibly long build list.
