With the launch of the new 2018 Jeep Wrangler just a matter of days now, it looks as though FCA decided it could allow itself to go easier than before on the camo for the off-roader because a four-door Unlimited model has just been spotted poking its head out of that infuriating pattern.
The only close look at the JL model we've had so far was that single picture from the assembly line, but if we're honest, it didn't reveal too much. With just the side of the wheel arch and the hinges on the door, you can't really make out the design of a vehicle.

On the other hand, the Wrangler - like the Mercedes-Benz G-Class - is one of those vehicles where exterior design is as surprising as getting shot while sitting in front of the targets on a busy day at a firing range. We pretty much know what's coming.

However, that doesn't mean it's not nice to see the 2018 model for the first time, even though it looks predictably similar to the outgoing one. We say "outgoing," but the recently leaked timeline shows the JK generation will carry on until next March, despite the new one starting production as soon as next month.

We'd say the designers did a fine job of retaining the rugged and utilitarian aspect that made Wrangler the legend it is while also infusing a sense of modernity into some of its details. A keen eye might spot the vents in the hood, the repositioning of the windshield hinges, the redesigned fender flares or the sleeker hood latches, but the idea is that everyone knows they're looking at a Jeep Wrangler.

The JLU in the pictures shows a bumper design similar to what we've seen on special editions and in Mopar catalogs, so it will either be standard for Rubicon models, or Jeep is already field testing its accessories. And judging by the amount of dried mud and dust on one of the cars, the drivers were on their way home from a pretty good day at work.

The 2018 Jeep Wrangler will make its full public debut on November 27 at the Los Angeles Auto Show, after the production would have already started. Various body styles and engines will be introduced gradually culminating with the Scrambler pickup truck a year from now. In the meantime, take your time and browse through the photo gallery to familiarize yourself with the 2018 Wrangler Unlimited
