Sporty Nissan Ariya Nismo Caught Sipping Electrons From a Tesla Supercharger

Nissan is done improvising and adapting to the EV trend, as it now wants to overcome the sporty part of it, too. And it has Nismo to lend it a hand, as the sub-brand is currently prepping a more agile version of the Ariya electric crossover, which will also feature a few distinct touches.
Our man with the cam spotted a prototype doing its thing at the Nurburgring back in September and revealing some of its visual tricks for the first time. Fast forward to the second week of November, and we have another tester to look at, one that was caught using a Tesla supercharger.

Since it was stationary this time around, our spy photographer was able to capture it from multiple angles, revealing more of that trick front bumper with its different styling and new apron. The back end features the same spoiler above the tailgate as the regular one, but it now rocks a second one that sits below the windscreen. The rear bumper and diffuser combo are also part of the novelties.

Just like the one we covered nearly two months ago, this Nissan Ariya Nismo was still a right-hand drive car, and since the driver didn't leave the cockpit, the interior didn't become the focus of the camera lens. Nonetheless, we can imagine that it features a pair of bucket seats with additional side bolstering to keep the person behind the wheel and the one riding shotgun secure during the high-speed cornering and integrated headrests. It should also get some exclusive trim and upholstery and the usual Nismo logos.

Nissan's Ariya Nismo is also expected to get some chassis tweaks to improve its cornering at the expense of comfort. More power should also be on the agenda, improving the most agile version's 0-60 mph (0-97 kph) sprint time, which currently takes 4.8 seconds. That's nearly one and a half seconds slower than the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, so it really needs more oomph if it wants to rival it. The top-of-the-line Ariya has an all-wheel drive powertrain and enjoys 389 hp (395 ps/290 kW) and 442 pound-feet (599 Nm) of torque combined.

Now, there's no clear indication that the Ariya Nismo will indeed get a power boost in addition to the sporty makeover inside and out, though this seems like the logical move. We cannot tell you yet when it is due, but it probably won't happen until the first half of next year. It could launch in the United States for the 2024 model year, making the current range-topping flavor, the Platinum+ e-4ORCE AWD look affordable. This one has an MSRP of $60,190 and up to 267 miles (430 km) of range with the battery fully charged.
