More and more, we see luxury defined as freedom – the freedom to move and travel, freedom to connect with nature, and freedom from overwhelming financial burdens. Mobile tiny homes are the perfect embodiment of this contemporary perspective, especially the ones that are also fully equipped for living sustainably off the grid.
Don't be fooled by its name – the Weekender Cabin is a perfectly suitable home for year-round, comfortable living. But the fact that it's both fully mobile and off-grid also makes it a great option for those who want a vacation home in a natural setting, a vacation rental, or a nature retreat close to home. It's one of the beautiful cabins on wheels available at Salty Builds, an Australian tiny house company with a strong emphasis on sustainability and carbon neutrality.

This type of cabin is particularly popular because it can easily be transported via truck and doesn't require any complex assembly or installation. You basically get all 22.7 square meters (244 square feet) of housing goodness delivered straight to your desired location. The dwelling itself isn't very big. It stands at 6.5 meters (21.3 feet) in length and 3.5 meters (11.4 feet) in width. Still, the interior looks and feels much more spacious, mainly due to the minimalistic, airy layout that doesn't try to fill in every inch of space unnecessarily.

The Weekender Cabin is ideally a two-person home. Accommodation is provided by a main floor-level bedroom with sufficient space for a queen-sized bed. When needed, the lounge room could also provide temporary accommodation for one more person. The simple, traditional layout where everything is located on the same floor certainly keeps things comfortable and easy for most folks while also creating a very peaceful overall flow, with no harsh obstructions when it comes to moving around the house or the line of sight.

This beautiful abode that belongs somewhere in a gorgeous natural setting was built using natural materials and sustainable construction techniques for carbon neutrality. It also comes with off-grid options that include a composting toilet and a full solar package. At the same time, there's nothing rustic about living inside this eco-friendly cabin. The kitchen is beautifully equipped with a hotplate (two burners & grill) and a farmhouse-style sink with a smart in-sink drainer. There's also room for a 94-liter bar fridge and ample storage.

The bathroom comes with a full-size shower cabin, an LED-backlit mirror, and premium taps and fixtures. An air conditioning system and a charming fireplace keep the atmosphere pleasant at all times. All the high-quality fixtures and design elements not only amp up the home’s functionality but also elevate its style. Although envisioned as a nature getaway, this cabin is contemporary in every aspect.

The exquisite attention to detail includes the unique plastered interior, which is a Salty Builds signature feature. It's a way of adding texture and vibrancy to a minimalistic design, which seems to come alive. In the bedroom, the built-in bed base with integrated storage and the built-in shelves become one with the walls, which emphasizes the idea of fluidity and organic flow. The exterior finish is just as important for the home's low environmental footprint and signature look.

One of the options is the Shadowclad Natural Groove, which is comprised of a 9-mm-wide and 5-mm-deep groove profile every 150 mm across the sheet. It's made from sustainably grown plantation pine and comes in either Natural Grey or Japanese Black. Western Red Cedar is another beautiful option. This popular species is widely preferred due to its impressive durability without the need for coating.

It's also naturally resistant to moisture, decay, and termites. The Shou Sugi Ban ancient Japanese technique is a perfect complement to this natural cladding, adding a beautiful appearance and extra durability. Abodo Vulcan Cladding is the brand's premium weatherboard timber, a special carbon-neutral building material obtained from thermally modified New Zealand plantation timber.

The Weekender Cabin is not as open to the outside world as typical Australian tiny homes, but it does use glass strategically. Generous bi-fold doors connect the lounge area to the outside. When open, home dwellers and guests get to enjoy a larger, welcoming indoor/outdoor space that feels more like a sanctuary. Plus, owners can choose to add a backdoor entrance that would be more convenient for everyday use and could also help link the Weekender to another cabin.

Comfort is further enhanced through full insulation throughout (using sustainable fiberglass earth wool), high-quality furniture, and discrete recessed lighting. The home comes on a heavy-duty steel chassis and can be delivered throughout Australia, with pricing starting at AUD 130,717 ($87,770). Size-wise, the Weekender is one of the most balanced models for multiple purposes. Those who are looking for an even more spacious cabin with the same benefits or a more compact tiny home on wheels can check out other beautiful options in the Salty Builds range.
