Who in their right mind would spend Ferrari SF90 Stradale money on a Porsche 911 (992) Turbo S? Well, at least three people (that we know of) have done it already! Here's what they got for their hard-earned money. Spoiler alert: it ain't that much!
When writing, the cheapest Porsche 911 anyone can order is the rear-wheel-drive Carrera version. Its MSRP is $114,400. The all-wheel-drive and ready-to-fight-supercars Turbo S will set you back at least $230,400 before options, taxes, and fees. No matter how you look at it, buying a Porsche is a reward reserved for the few who have done well in their lives.

Believe it or not, these MSRPs are about to get even more expensive because the Stuttgart-based brand is hybridizing the 911 lineup with the incoming 992.2 refresh. However, hold on to your seat because there are people who pay double the MSRP of a 911 Turbo S without even blinking twice.

Why? Well… Even though Porsche's most iconic ride is already pretty expensive and comes in many versions – some of which are limited-edition and extremely sought-after – there is another way to make your high-performance sports car more exclusive than your neighbor's. The answer is: Sonderwunsch.

That's Porsche's special wishes or special requests program. It's an evolution of the Exclusive Manufaktur offering from a few years ago. Remember the $98,000 paint option, which was Python Green with chameleon pigment in it? That was an Exclusive Manufaktur color. The brand repacked the initiative, combined it with a couple more possibilities, and created Sonderwunsch – a wonderful and pricey way of putting your vision to work.

Porsche is essentially allowing you to become a designer.

An incredibly rewarding (and costly) journey

Don't run to the bank just yet. Becoming a Sonderwunsch insider isn't as easy as you might think, even though Porsche's profit margins must be quite considerable with this type of project. Your favorite dealer must contact the regional Porsche manager to get things going. Afterward, Porsche needs to vet your ideas. Then, if your ideas are okayed, you are presented with the costs. You have a limited timeframe for coming up with the funds to secure the allocation.

As expected, it's going to set you back quite a bit. After all, you're asking Porsche to build something special just for you and mark your ride as an extra special 911 Turbo S.

This particular customer spent $192,575 to create their special Porsche 911 Turbo S through the German brand's enhanced customization offering. What's even more impressive than that is the other options, like the Burmester sound system or the SportDesign Package, that they had to pay for despite being accepted into the Sonderwunsch program. Their Turbo S ended up with a price tag of $511,625, which included the gas guzzler tax. Oh, and they also added bucket seats and opted for the rear seats delete.

That's a little over half a million dollars, not including the sales tax. Unless they live in one of the four states that do not have a sales tax, the buyer had to add around $25,000 on top of that to be able to register their special Porsche. Just for reference, the 2024 Ferrari SF90 Stradale has a starting price of under $530,000.

But this wasn't the only Sonderwunsch commission putting ChromaFlair Urban Bamboo in the spotlight. Another 911 Turbo S spent some time at Porsche's German headquarters. Those who saw it live understood why the seemingly bland color was such a pricey option. But the customer went even further and added a custom pinstripe and had the rims finished in the same eye-catching shade of wacky green.

Exquisite and enthralling

It is a bit unfair to call this a single color because the ChromaFlair pigments have multi-layer flakes that allow paints and coatings to seemingly change color when viewed from different angles. Each flake exhibits a variety of colors depending on the angle at which it is viewed and the angle of incident light. Essentially, the green captured in the photos and the video below can turn into blue, depending on where you're looking at it and the lighting conditions.

"Chromaflair flakes include a center aluminum core layer that is surrounded by a glasslike layer. Changing the thickness of this layer produces different colors. To maintain the tight color tolerance required by the industry, layer thickness must be controlled within a few atoms," explained Illinois' favorite Porsche dealer.

What's even more special is that Porsche reportedly only makes about 15 ChromaFlair cars per year. That's how they ensure that your pricey ride will remain a limited-edition iteration.

However, this 2024 Porsche 911 Turbo S is the second coupe sporting this incredible paint job in the US and the third worldwide. The first one was delivered three years ago to a customer in Illinois. The second rolled off the production line in 2023 and remained in Europe. That one cost around $534,000.

But is ChromaFlair Urban Bamboo better looking than the ChromaFlair Python Green? Let us know in the comment section below!

Finally, Sonderwunsch isn't only about picking a special exterior color that's not available via the automaker's Paint-to-Sample or Paint-to-Sample Plus individual color development.

This program is about cars like the 911 Sally Carrera. It aims to satisfy your most exigent desires. Dreaming of exotic material combinations, custom components, personal emblems, and tailored adjustments? Well, get in touch with your dealer and ask about the "Special Wishes" program. Just make sure your bank account is ready for the incursion into the deep six-figure territory.
