Reddit threads have a way of turning out as an incredible source of automotive-related information if you know where to look. Of course, it also helps when bringing to light something along the lines of a guy trying to demonstrate that “eggs are crazy strong” by way of lifting an entire car on a bunch of them.
Over time, we have seen marvelous things with four wheels show up for their moment of glory on reddit, such as a Baby Blue Corvette C7 that looked like a blind man’s widebody project, or a Tesla running on Autopilot that didn’t even flinch when a distracted Nissan driver almost performed a PIT maneuver on the EV.

Now it’s time to jump to a completely different level, though we’re not exactly sure if we’re making the leap in the right direction or not. That’s because the mirage of TikTok has clearly reached the website and things may never be the same. Just like our view of the hidden powers of the humble egg, for that matter.

That’s because we just witnessed a seemingly incredible achievement – which is both daring and funny at the same time. To be more precise, someone decided to find out if a compact car (which may or may not be a Hyundai Elantra GT) can be supported by nothing but eggs. And they allegedly needed just six days for this otherworldly achievement.

It’s all broken down in steps, with day one tests coming with just a single figure – 20 lbs (around 9 kg) is the maximum weight supported by a single egg. Day two brought the creation of an interesting base mount that held four eggs tightly in place for them to support three bricks for a total of 102 pounds (over 46 kilos).

Day three brought some assistance from modern 3D printing technology and led to the development of some trays that held even more eggs in place with a little help from EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate, a.k.a. poly) foam. That meant it was time to grab the lady of the house and a pair of dogs for a lofty total of 491 lbs (almost 223 kilos).

Bear in mind that no physics rules were broken since there were enough eggs to spread the weight evenly, and each one ended supporting 19.64 lbs (8.9 kg) - just shy of the initial find that 20 lbs is the make-or-break figure.

Day four gets the experiment to finally involve the car as well, as the eggs are used to lift the rear end of the compact (still supported with jacks for obvious safety reasons). By the way, 45 of the little ones did the trick. The fifth day was probably a disaster as we’re shown footage of broken eggs that would have looked better scrambled in the frying pan.

Day six works like a charm, though, as the car (in park and with the e-brake on) was in the air, resting on nothing but lots and lots of eggs. Naturally, the explanation is logical and has to do with the fact that pressure equals force divided by area. Or, put simply, “teamwork makes the dreamwork.”

Clearly, it was just a matter of finding the optimum number of eggs to evenly distribute the entire weight of the car; nothing Sci-Fi, so please move along as we’re feeling hungry all of a sudden.
