GM, Please Turn This Bold Render Into the Fully Electric Chevy Corvette of 2040

Just like any other automaker, General Motors is very active on social media, and its different business units aren’t striking a false note either. One of our favorites is GM Design’s Instagram account, which has a habit of mixing up daily occurrences with inspirational dreams of models that won’t look out of place more than a few years from now.

We all know that GM’s designers have been hard at work for decades, sketching and rendering new vehicles, despite knowing that most of their ideas will never come to fruition. Still, they occupy their minds with all sorts of visions, from Sci-Fi takes on the GMC Sierra HD to Cadillac SUVs with barn doors, and just about anything in between.

This time around, we’re not going to be talking about a current product, such as the GMC Hummer EV and the way it might have looked if the head honchos approved a different styling.

Instead, GM designer Jingxu Zhan has been allowed to imagine a futuristic Chevrolet sports car, which is a great signal that America’s largest domestic automaker is letting its employees ponder the future of its performance models.

Unfortunately, we can’t say the prospects are great for every sports car in the stable, judging by the lackluster 2020 sales performance of the Chevrolet Camaro. On the other hand, everyone is looking to get their hands on a 2021 C8 Corvette, so we could speculate that Zhan was thinking about “America’s sports car” when envisioning this low-slung and ultra-wide coupe.

Because there’s little to no information attached to the bold render, all we can do is theorize about its possible future within the Chevrolet lineup. As such, our speculative placement in the range would be for a 2040 take on the upcoming Corvette generations (probably a C10 or even a C11 by that time).

Naturally, we feel that by then, its new mid-engine placement might have run its course, so our powertrain of choice would be a fully electric four-motor assembly - one for each wheel, with torque vectoring AWD. Sure, it doesn’t look there’s much space for batteries, but we really hope technology will make them a lot smaller by then.
