Two years after its was introduced to great acclaim, the current lineup of smart cars have been refreshed for the model year 2016. Pricing for the entry-level models remains unchanged.
Slated to reach dealers in September, the 2016 smart fortwo is now the bearer of a solid roof with a black fabric covering. I’m a bit puzzled by this, but then again, smart owners puzzle me too. In the case of the proxy, Brabus, and Brabux Xclusive, the solid roof with fabric covering is a no-cost option for those who don’t need the standard panoramic roof with sun protection.

In the case of the 2016 smart fortwo cabrio, the Daimler-owned manufacturer announces that the fabric soft top can now be had in brown and light beige. Repeat after me: brown and light beige. Incredibly daft colors for the soft top of such a modern-looking and funky car, if you ask me. Only available in the Brabus tailor made individualization program, both colors are priced at €996.

Regarding the fortwo coupe and cabrio, as well as the 2016 smart forfour, the Boblingen-based company informs that all models now come with i-Size child seat fastener as standard. Described as “a further development of the ISOFIX system,” I-size latches into two lower anchors between the cushions and backrest for the best possible protection in the event of a crash.

The 2016 smart range consists of six models. Starting from the fortwo coupe (€10,485), the lineup continues with the fortwo cabrio (€14,305) and forfour (€11,145). If, however, you need the 0.9-liter three-cylinder turbo engine with 109 horsepower instead of 90 horsepower, the brabus models are priced in Germany from €19,710, €22,970, and €20,520, respectively.

In the UK, retail pricing for the revised models is as follows: £11,125 (fortwo coupe), £13,265 (fortwo cabrio), £11,620 (forfour), £13,810 (fortwo coupe Brabus), £15,950 (fortwo cabrio Brabus), £14,305 (forfour Brabus).
