The Skoda Superb is an old-school kind of car, offering lots of space and the ride comfort you expect from a Mercedes while costing Passat money. The formula may seem irrelevant in the era of the SUV, but 100,000 customers would disagree with you.
That's how many units of the third-generation model have been produced since the launch in March 2015. It's not exactly as popular as the Octavia, but we figure Skoda is glad it introduced the car back in 2001.

In these 15 years, Skoda has made no less than 850,000 Superb sedans and wagons. It's now shipped to customers across the world and produced in China as well.

If we remember correctly, the Superb sedan was shown in January or February of 2015. We were initially disappointed that it didn't have the LED headlights and digital dash of the VW Passat. However, Skoda quickly launched the Superb Combi in May of 2016, and it became more popular than the sedan in markets such as Germany and Poland.

Riding on the MQB platform, the 2015 Superb Combi is both lighter and bigger at the same time. The wheelbase has been stretched by 80 mm to 2,841 mm while the seats are placed lower down, so both legroom and headroom are ample. If you can't find enough room in one of these cars, you need to see a hormone specialist.

At the moment, the Superb is available with a wide range of engines shared with other VW Group cars. The most frugal is a 1.6 TDI making 120 PS. If you want to go as fast as possible, your Superb of choice would be the 280 PS model with all-wheel drive and DSG. It gets to 100 km/h in around 6 seconds.

“The production of this highly modern car is a testament to the outstanding competence of the Kvasiny plant and its employees,” says Michael Oeljeklaus, Skoda Board Member for Production and Logistics. “The name Superb represents one of the best and most successful models in the automotive mid-class. The third-generation model will continue the Superb’s success story in the coming months and years.”

That sounds like a load of marketing talk, and so does the fact that the Superb is “up to 30 percent more economical thanks to the new EU-6 engines.” Real world economy figures aren't going to show such drastic improvements.

The real stuff that impresses us is the fact that it has 660 liters of trunk space, a 230V charging port in the back and you can adjust the front seat... from the back. Most of the features are just adequate, but many people say the suspension is superb (pardon the pun).

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
