The all-new generation of the Skoda Superb sedan just landed in the People's Republic of China. Its success is pretty much guaranteed, after the previous model sold 218,000 units since being launched in 2009. However, the Czech sub-brand of the Volkswagen group has set itself a pretty ambitious target of selling 500,000 vehicles per year in the country.
China is already their biggest market. However, selling half a million cars could prove tricky. The Yeti just celebrated its 500,000 production milestone, but it's made in four factories and has been in production since 2009.

Four months after its sales debut in Europe, the new Skoda Superb is rolling out to customers on the Chinese market. It's the biggest car ever made using Volkswagen Group's MQB modular platform and also the most technologically advanced Skoda model yet.

The launch of the new Skoda Superb in our strongest individual market China is a key milestone for the brand, emphasising our growth claim in China,” says Werner Eichhorn, Skoda Board Member for Sales and Marketing. “The new Skoda Superb is a demonstration of the increased emphasis the brand is placing on the design and emotionality of our cars. It is with this focus that we intend to win over new customers in China and further strengthen our position over the coming years.

The Superb combines the typical trademarks of the Skoda brand (affordability, space and functionality) into a package worth calling a flagship.

From what we've been able to gather, the Superb is available in China with only three engines, the most powerful of which is the EA888 2-liter TSI rated at 220 hp and 350 Nm of torque. It comes standard with a 6-speed automatic gearbox and its price starts at 169,800 yuan (which is the equivalent of $26,860).

However, two other turbocharged TSI engines will be available, a 1.4 making 140 horsepower and 250 Nm, or a 1.8 TSI with 180 hp and 300 Nm of torque.
