Should the Refreshed Chevy Silverado Come With an Additional Extra-Long Bed Option?

Earlier this year, in the middle of the summer, Chevrolet introduced the 2024 model year for the Silverado 1500 full-size light-duty pickup truck series.
Unfortunately for those who knew that a lot of things were brewing at the competition, the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 didn't come with many changes – yet even the base model isn't exactly affordable by workhorse truck standards. As such, the 2024 Silverado kicks off at $38,695 – the Regular Cab Standard Bed 2WD. Adding 4WD is just $100 more, though. From there, you can also play with a Regular Cab and Long Bed, a Double Cab with Standard or Short Bed, as well as a Crew Cab with Standard Bed, the latter starting at no less than $44,795 with 4WD.

However, all these options might pale in comparison with the competition, even if Chevrolet makes sure to offer many trim options – from WT to High Country and from Trail Boss to RST. The Ford Motor Company, for example, introduced at the recent North American International Auto Show in Detroit (NAIAS 2023) the refreshed 2024 Ford F-150 with new fascia designs based on the trim level, additional goodies inside, and more tech features than ever before.

Meanwhile, just recently, Ram Trucks also announced the availability of the 2025 Ram 1500 series in early 2024 with a subtle facelift. But the minor exterior changes are just a ruse. Indeed, the cockpit now boasts more screen real estate than ever before, including a larger central touchscreen and a segment-exclusive passenger-side display. As for what's under the hood, except for the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with the eTorque mild-hybrid system, everything is brand new.

The novelties include the 3.0-liter SSTs – the new Hurricane family of straight-six turbo mills boasts 420 hp or 540 ponies in H/O (high output) form. There will be a new Ram 1500 RHO as the off-road-focused version of the family, plus an all-new, first-ever (revived) Ram 1500 Ramcharger boasting two electric motors, a 92-kWh battery pack rechargeable at DC stations at up to 145 kW, plus a 3.6-liter V6 and a generator acting as a range extender kit.

As for the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado, GM has trouble getting the Silverado EV into production in a meaningful way, for example. So, it clearly needs help – including from the imaginative realm of digital car content creators. David Scott Neal II, a Senior Industrial Designer at Modus Applied Innovations and the pixel master behind nemojunglist, has a new yet sketchy idea that could feature the Chevy Silverado moniker on the tailgate without giving it too much thought.

The pixel master's vision is unnamed, indeed, yet we feel that its design is cleverly biased towards the Chevy Silverado – and the potential to (massively) enhance its appeal with an off-road version (ICE-powered or EV, it doesn't really matter). This project features a massive ground clearance, humongous wheels, as well as an extra-long bed option that would make it a great asset for people who tend to haul a lot of stuff during their road trip adventures.

So, what do you think? Could GM allow Chevrolet to introduce the refreshed 2025 or 2026 Silverado 1500 with a Crew Cab and three bed-size options – not just the real world's Short and Standard options but also this hypothetical Extra-Long variant? And would it be feasible for a dune-bashing version, too?
