Sure, the Japanese automaker Subaru can't compete (yet) with the peers active in America – Toyota sold in 2023 over 2.24 million units, Honda delivered around 1.3 million vehicles, and Nissan reached almost 899k. But it certainly didn't have a shameful performance like Mitsubishi, for example.
The latter sold only a little over 87k vehicles because of its lackluster model lineup and lack of corner-office head honcho vision. Meanwhile, Subaru not only bested Mitsubishi from a mile away, but it also posted almost double the sales of Mazda (363,354 units), for example.
More precisely, Subaru of America ended the calendar year 2023 with a 13.6 jump in deliveries compared to 2022 – a total of 632,086 vehicles. That's on account of its newly refurbished lineup – the little Crosstrek had its best year with over 159k (+3%), and the Forester jumped 34% to no less than 152,566 deliveries.
That's not bad at all, especially when considering that Subaru is adding new faces to the lineup, like the 2024 WRX TR or the all-new sixth-generation 2025 Forester compact crossover SUV. However, interestingly, the Crosstrek and Forester were only the second and third highest-grossing Subaru nameplates last year in America.
On top of everything, there was the Legacy-derived 2024 Subaru Outback, the eternal mid-size crossover station wagon that battles with Cross Country and All-Terrain models and always reigns supreme – it sold 161,814 vehicle sales (+10 percent). As such, it is no wonder that everyone and their mother thinks that it's next up for an all-new generation – including the imaginative realm of digital car content creators.
More precisely, the good folks over at the AutoYa info channel on YouTube have imagined the CGI looks of the hypothetical full redesign of the 2025 Outback – if it switches to a seventh generation. It may be possible that Subaru chooses – yet again – a short life cycle given that the first generation arrived in 1994, followed by new iterations in 1999, 2003, 2009, 2014, and 2020.
In fact, Subaru has already performed the mid-cycle update for the 2023 model year. However, as far as the design – both interior and exterior – is concerned, it is anyone's guess how the Japanese automaker will execute the styling. Some might think it could take cues from the 2025 Forester, but the channel's pixel master thinks otherwise.
So, their unofficial 2025 Subaru Outback sports an independent design compared to the current iteration and the 2025 Forester. Inside, there's also an update of the latest portrait-oriented infotainment system, plus new gauges and a subtly refreshed steering wheel. As always, the CGI expert also included a raft of alternative exterior colors, and there is also a comprehensive side-by-side comparison between the new CGI model and the predecessor.
So, what do you think – will Subaru's next 2025 Outback look like this, and is the company giving the nameplate a new iteration, or should we remain patient and expect it for the 2026 model year?
