SEAT Ibiza 1.2 TDI Ecomotive to Debut in Geneva

Spanish automaker SEAT will introduce at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show in March the new range of Ibiza Ecomotive, an updated lineup especially aimed at cutting emissions and fuel consumption. The series will be powered by a 1.2-liter TDI engine, similar to the one installed on the Volkswagen Polo BlueMotion, which will generate 75 horsepower and 180 Nm of torque.

As for fuel consumption, preliminary figures are pointing to an amazing 3.3 liters per 100 km (71.2 mpg), with emissions going as low as 87 grams of CO2 per kilometer.

On Polo BlueMotion, the three-cylinder TDI engine comes with a 22 percent fuel economy improvement (or 0.9 liters) as compared to the standard Polo powered by a TDI unit with 75 hp. CO2 emissions are down from 109 to 87 g/km.

According to autoblog.it, the Ibiza 1.2 TDI Ecomotive will be available in all bodystyle configurations, including the 5- and the 3-door versions plus the ST variant.

SEAT will also bring at Geneva the Ibiza ST, a model based on the IBZ concept showcased in Frankfurt back in September. Sales of this particular model are due to begin in 2010, but full specs will be released prior to the public unveiling in March.

"It will be on the market in 2010, as the company continues its new product offensive which is making the Spanish brand’s range the youngest on the market. In the year of the Ibiza’s 25th anniversary, the newest addition to the range underlines the car’s segment-leading quality, design and workmanship," SEAT said in a release when talking about the Ibiza ST.
