Seat might release a coupe version of the Leon in the next few years as a design project already exists. However, in case the Spanish manufacturer will indeed start building such a car it won't make it sooner than 2011, Seat sales and marketing boss Jan Lafrentz told autocar.co.uk.
“A design proposal already exists for this car,” he revealed. “We see Leon and Ibiza as the two main pillars of our product line-up, and it makes sense for us to expand them as much as possible. A C-segment coupe is much more easy to package than a B-segment coupe, and would be more profitable for us. The Scirocco has done great things for Volkswagen, and I believe this car could do even greater things for us."
After the official release at the Geneva Auto Show in March, the 2009 Seat Leon is being offered in no less than 19 different versions, as it follows: nine different engines, (five petrol and four diesel) four different gearboxes (five and six-speed manual, six and seven-speed DSG), and three trim levels – Reference, Style and Sport.
Seat unveiled at the Frankfurt Auto Show last month the Ecomotive range, a new series of models specifically aimed at cutting emissions and improving fuel efficiency. The revised versions of the Altea and Altea XL join the SEAT Ibiza, Leon and Alhambra ECOMOTIVE line-up for the first time. The new ‘greener’ range has been fitted with the 1.6 TDI CR engine that is able to develop 105 HP and lower both fuel consumption figures and emissions levels.
