Scoop: Is the Chevy Tru 140S an Opel Astra Coupe?

We’re taking a little step back from all the hectic action of Detroit to talk about one of the concepts that really caught our attention, the Tru 140S from Chevrolet, which they talk about as if it’s a hight possibility of production.
Chevy calls it an “affordable exotic”, a 2+2 coupe with front-wheel drive that makes a number of sacrifices in order to look good. The idea of such a car and the fact that it only packs a 1.4-liter turbocharged Ecotec engine with about 150 hp strikes us as being very Scion-ish.

However, unlike the Toyota budget-beater brand, this might actually have global ambitions. While going over the Tru 140S’s concept reveal promo video, we immediately recognized some Opel Astra design cures, especially round the back, where it kind of reminds us of the upcoming Astra Cabrio that’s supposed to be independent from its hatchback brothers. We might be wrong, but just look at the two photos below and analyze the rear wing and boot lip.

The brand new Opel Cabrio is supposedly going to arrive under a different brand name, much like the VW Eos is not a Golf. What’s more, this clearly indicates that a pure coupe, not like the GTC, is very plausible.

The fact that the Tru 140 concept is front-wheel drive also gives credit to the idea.
