After the stunning digital returns of other models recently, it's now time for the Buick Skylark to enjoy its 15 minutes of fame with an emphasis on digital – because Buick still won't make passenger cars for the United States market, not even rebadged ones.
Coming from the same jlord8 on Instagram, this rendering imagines a modern-day Buick Skylark with C7 Chevrolet Corvette underpinnings. Thus, it doesn't have a mid-engine layout that would have allowed it to send blue-collar supercar vibes, as it's not based on the C8. As for the actual Buick model that served as inspiration for the redesigned front end, it was the open-top Cascada, which was also marketed as an Opel, Vauxhall, and Holden.

But what exactly is a Buick Skylark? That would be a passenger car initially launched in the early 1950s, with the moniker being used on a standalone model the following decade. The first generation launched in 1964 and was followed by five more iterations until the end of the 1990s when the GM-owned brand decided to pull the plug on it altogether. The last one rolled off the line in the 1998 model year, thus bidding farewell to the nameplate.

Ever since Buick dropped the Skylark from its portfolio over two decades ago, there have been several rumors claiming it might return. But it is clear by now that it won't happen, as the automaker is only interested in crossovers when it comes to the United States, with the occasional electric twist. Even if they decide to bring back this moniker from the dead, chances are it would be used on a high-rider of some sort, but we wouldn't hold our breath for it.

Now, the modern-day mid-engined take on the Buick Skylark comes right after the Cadillac XLR was imagined with the C8's underpinnings. The CGI model looks interesting, to say the least, especially with the fresh face that was clearly inspired by the premium car marque's current lineup. And if you must know, Caddy isn't interested either in having such a model in its portfolio, especially since the more premium vibes would make it pricier than the C8 'Vette.

Saturn was also brought forward last month by the same pixel manipulator, which gave it a shot at imagining what a new Sky would look like. And you know what model they used for the digital illustration, don't you? That's right, the C8 Corvette, with its mid-engine construction and rear-wheel drive, which would've been a radical departure for this model that was also marketed as the Opel GT and Daewoo G2X in markets outside America.

Truth be told, we dig the looks of all three, and if we had to choose one, we'd obviously stick with the original, which is the Corvette. But would you favor a rebadged variant sold under the Saturn (dead since 2010), Cadillac, or Buick brands?

Editor's note: Edit: This article erroneously stated the Buick Skylark digital revival was based on the C8 Corvette when it was actually based on the C7.
