Another defunct automotive brand has come to our attention recently, and it is none other than Saturn. Founded by General Motors in 1985, it was killed in 2010, and while it only lived for 25 years, it certainly left its mark on the car world.
One of the vehicles that became synonymous with Saturn was the Sky. Also marketed as an Opel GT or Daewoo G2X, depending on where it was made, it rolled off the Wilmington factory assembly line in Delaware from 2006 to 2009.

The Saturn Sky was a two-door roadster with a front-engine and rear-wheel drive layout that shared many components with the Pontiac Solstice. The engines of choice were the 2.4-liter straight-four and a 2.0-liter four-banger. These were hooked up to a five-speed manual or automatic transmission.

With 177 horsepower, the entry-level flavor could sprint to 60 mph (97 kph) in 6.9 seconds. The Red Line, which featured the turbo'd lump making 260 hp and came with a torque-sensing limited-slip differential, improved suspension, a specific front end, 18-inch alloys, and dual exhaust tips, among others, could deal with the acceleration in 5.2 seconds.

And it was the latter trim level of the Saturn Sky that Jlord8 recently imagined. Shared on Instagram, the rendering was based on none other than the modern-day Chevy Corvette. The C8 was used as a blank canvas, receiving a new face inspired by that of the defunct model.

Some of the visual highlights include a new grille and headlights that are similar to those of the Sky, as well as an almost identical front bumper. The silver window surround and the five-spoke wheels are other novelties inspired by the original Saturn model. We reckon it would sport a few updates at the rear, too, though this is where the pixel manipulator drew the line – well, not before giving it a yellow finish, that is.

As for the firepower, it would make use of the same powertrain as the Stingray. That would be a 6.2-liter V8 kicking out 495 hp when ordered with the optional performance exhaust system, with the torque being rated at 470 lb-ft (637 Nm). It would also be similarly fast, taking less than three seconds to hit sixty and likely maxing out at an identical 194 mph (312 kph).

Chevy's C8 Corvette is also offered in the more track-focused Z06 and the electrified E-Ray configurations, so these would be other possible versions of a Saturn Sky revival based on this model. But as we all know, GM's defunct brand will remain dead for good, so enthusiasts could only dream of seeing a fresh Sky. But would you really pick it over a 'Vette if priced similarly, or would the sporty Chevy get your approval instead?
