The hot hatch segment has been constantly revolutionizing itself in the last few years, with the included vehicles constantly raising the bar, one of the most obvious indicators of this trend being the relentless fight for power increase.
One of the leading cars in this automotive heaven is the 250 hp Renault Megane RS. Now, it seems that the French fighter is about to get a big brother that would be aimed at settling the fight with the beefier 300 hp Ford Focus RS.
According to autocar, Renault is working on a pumped up version of the Megane RS, which would develop (you guessed it) 300 hp. The car’s current 2.0 liter turbocharged powerplant is expected to receive some modifications that would allow it to offer the new power level.
Of course the mods won’t be limited to an ECU remap, as the engine should also get some new components. You know what this means, don’t you? Tuners will be able to get the car past the 300 hp mark, so we’ve got a new nutty nuts hatch coming our way.
The vehicle is expected to get minor tweaks for the chassis and styling, with no revolution planned.
However, the icing on the cake would be a track-dedicated but road legal version of the new car (remember the previous generation Megane R26R?), which would com with plastic windows, a rollcage and other goodies. Let’s hope that Renault will build it.
Our say: A new automotive producers promises to offers 300hp via the front wheels. Let’s see how the torque steer will be handled...
