When we heard that Renault would bring back the Gordini name a few years ago, we expected the carmaker to offer us a range of models that would somehow complement its Renaultsport offerings, but this wasn’t exactly the case, as Gordini badges only bring some extra equipment and are not even dedicated to RS models alone.
However, it seems that things are about to change - the carmaker is planning to reinvent the Gordini brand, turning it into a line of track-focused vehicles, as chief operating officer Carlos Tavares recently confirmed.
The new Gordinis will be offered together with Renaultsport models, representing the more extreme alternative. Tavares explained that we will be able to drive Gordinis on the road, but only as tamed version of a track-only vehicle.
Considering that Renault has recently joined forces with Caterham Cars to offer us a new sports car that will bring back the Alpine name, it will be interesting to see how Renault will place all these new developments on the market.
