Renault Cars Not Affected by Toyota's Stuck Pedal

Toyota's safety recall frightens the whole automotive world after it was discovered that millions of cars are affected by what can prove to be a deadly glitch. After its French rivals Peugeot and Citroen confirmed that approximately 100,000 cars have the same accelerator-related problems as the ones that concerns Toyota, Renault stepped in and assured consumers that its vehicles are not using parts involved in the recall.

"Renault vehicles use neither the same pedals, nor the same parts as those of Toyota," a Renault spokeswoman was quoted as saying by Reuters.

PSA Peugeot Citroen issued a recall that concerns 107 and C1 models, the two vehicles produced at its plant in the Czech Republic and sold across Europe. The factory is currently managed by Toyota and builds 107, C1 and Aygo.

"We’ll have the same recall campaign as Toyota for the affected cars,” a source close to the matter was quoted as saying by BusineesWeek. “The faulty component isn’t used in all the vehicles. It represents about 10 percent of C1s and 107s in circulation.”

Meanwhile, reports on Toyota's safety glitch keep coming, with Toyota claiming it has already found a fix for the accelerator pedal.

"A precision-cut steel reinforcement bar will be installed into the assembly that will reduce the surface tension between the friction shoe and the adjoining surface. With this reinforcement in place, the excess friction that can cause the pedal to stick is eliminated," Toyota says. "The company has confirmed the effectiveness of the newly reinforced pedals through rigorous testing on pedal assemblies that had previously shown a tendency to stick."
